Application
Faster Circuit Identification and Troubleshooting in Large Offices
Problem: Technicians spend valuable time locating circuit connections.
As the demand for bandwidth grows, bay termination density in the central office increases, and network
maintenance becomes more complicated, time-consuming and expensive. The deployment of bandwidth-
driven, next-generation voice, video and data services has led to extensive cabling, labor and
documentation, leaving technicians with the arduous task of identifying LED tracer lamps in large DSX-1
and DSX-3 bay lineups. And with bay lineups continuing to grow, network operators face even stiffer
challenges.
Solution: Bay Tracer
™
Illuminator reduces circuit maintenance time and
saves money.
Network maintenance expenses can be significantly reduced by incorporating features designed to
increase technician productivity. The Bay Tracer Illuminator makes it fast and easy to identify jack LED tracer
lamps in large central offices, significantly reducing maintenance time spent searching for DSX cross-
connects. The Bay Tracer unit mounts at the top of each DSX bay, providing a large, ultra-bright visual
indicator for circuit identification.
When a technician activates an individual DSX jack tracer within the bay, the Bay Tracer unit is
automatically activated at both ends of the circuit. The Bay Tracer unit will continue flashing for 90
seconds before automatically shutting off until triggered by the next tracer event. The 90 second flash
cycle allows technicians ample opportunity to scan even the longest DSX lineups and locate the
corresponding far end bay. This automatic operation eliminates the practice of physically reactivating LEDs,
a time-intensive task in large central offices using traditional jack LEDs.
With the Bay Tracer Illuminator, time spent searching for the fan
and lineup can be reduced to under one minute.

Application
Big Savings for Big Lineups
The Bay Tracer Illuminator can reduce time spent searching for the far end of a cross-connect bay lineup to
under one minute. With most network maintenance expenses tied up in labor costs, cost-savings can be
monumental in offices featuring multiple lineups of several bays and thousands of terminations.
The Bay Tracer Illuminator allows technicians to spend less time searching for cross-connect bays and more
time devoted to expanding network functionality.
The advantages of installing the Bay Tracer unit are immediately reflected in reduced network operating
expenses. The Bay Tracer Illuminator features exceptional return on investment in large central office
environments where multiple DSX bay lineups are common.
