MOTIVATION
2 kinds of motivation:
o
instrumental – learning a language
as an instrument
o
integrative – feeling warmly about
the language
Integrative motivation is more powerful
than instrumental motivation.
WHAT MOTIVATION IS IT?
I learn English…
1. to watch American TV
2. because I like it; it’s a beautiful
language
3. because I work with the foreigners in
my company
4. to graduate
5. to understand how English people
think and feel
HINTS FOR TEACHERS

Real motivation comes from
within each learner.

Good teachers provoke Ss’
interests & involvement in the
learnt language.
