The PON (Passive Optical Network over wavelengths) Express 16 is the first transport platform
to use a Passive Optical Network (PON) architecture to break the access bottleneck. Using Dense
Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM), the PON Express 16 provides cost-effective access to
business parks, campuses, and multi-dwelling unit/multi-tenant units over a shared network
infrastructure without sacrificing security or limiting bandwidth. Up to 16 customers can be
simultaneously connected with each having up to 1Gbps dedicated, symmetrical bandwidth.
Operationally, each Optical Network Terminal (ONT) is “colorless” which eliminates the sparing
issue that plagues traditional DWDM systems and provides “plug-n-play” system provisioning.
The PON Express 16 is integrated into other ADC products such as the OmniReach
®
FTTX Fiber
Distribution Hub FDH3000S providing a compelling solution unique to the industry.

The LoopStar
®
1600 is an advanced, next-generation SONET multi-service transmission platform that

allows service providers to cost-effectively aggregate, deploy, and manage TDM and Ethernet services.
With its compact design and ability to scale from an OC-3 to an OC-192 network, the LoopStar 1600
provides a low-cost, high-growth solution for adding services at the central office or at the edge of
the network.
When used with the LoopStar 800 product, the LoopStar 1600 provides a cost-effective aggregation
point for multiple subtending rings. The LoopStar 1600 also can function as multiple virtual Add-Drop
Multiplexers (ADMs) for hub node applications. In addition, with its versatile cross-connect architecture
and high port count, this platform is an efficient alternative to existing cross-connect systems that
require significantly more rack space at two to three times the cost.

For Ethernet services to fully deliver on the
promise of lower costs and higher reliability,
remote management of the network becomes
essential—especially as subscriber numbers
increase. Remote isolation of troubles and
performance monitoring are minimum
requirements for carrier-class Ethernet service.
Service providers can now create an intelligent
Ethernet management platform with ADC’s
Ethernet Network Interface Unit (ENIU). Installed
at the remote premise, the ENIU provides the
demarcation point between the customer and carrier network. By providing the ability to sectionalize

The ADC OptEnet

optical extension platform is a carrier-class, intelligent, scalable platform capable
of handling any network’s Ethernet or SONET media transitions. Bridging the gap between legacy
copper infrastructures and fiber growth, the OptEnet platform provides the most economical evolution
path. Integrated intelligence allows the user to remotely monitor system performance and transmit
alarm conditions to upstream operational support systems. Leveraging ADC’s leadership in connectivity
solutions, the OptEnet platform provides the ideal solution for Ethernet extensions in support of

transparent LAN services or switch router interconnect requirements. A variety of solutions are supported
ranging from 10Mb/s Ethernet, OC-12 and Gigabit Ethernet.

Modular Chassis
The OptEnet chassis is a modular chassis, which enables multiple types of line cards deployed
simultaneously within the same chassis.
Power Supply Modules

The OptEnet chassis accepts power from DC sources. Dual power supplies are deployed within the
chassis to provide redundant power to all line cards along the back plane.

platform. An alarm card is available if only local alarm indications are required. The CPU and alarm card
are optional. Only one of the two modules can be deployed in the chassis, so the network administrator
must determine which alarm notification method is preferable.

The OptEnet Optical Extension platform has expanded to include a single-mount solution, which can be
positioned on a desktop or wall. The unit can be deployed as the remote termination device linked to
the OptEnet modular platform or in a single-circuit, point-to-point configuration. The device converts
standards-based electrical Ethernet signals to fiber, enabling cost-effective, flexible Ethernet extensions
across a wide area or local area network (WAN or LAN).
Enabling network planners to bridge the gap between legacy copper infrastructure and new fiber plants,
the OptEnet platform maximizes the distance and quality benefits of fiber in a high quality, standards-
based solution. A variety of data interfaces are supported ranging from 10Mb/s Ethernet to OC-12 to
Gigabit Ethernet.
