Sundials are very interesting because
people can still use them to tel) the time.
They look like clocks, but they have just
one hand that points up at the sky. They

tell the time because as the Earth circles
around the sun during the day, the sun
moves to different places in the sky. The
sun then hits the hand on the sundial and
makes a shadow. This is how Mr. Sun tells
us the time. There are many amazing
sundials in the world. A famous one is 'The
Sundial Bridge' in Redding, California.
When the sun hits the main tower, it
makes a huge shadow over a tiled garden
at the end of the bridge.
1

Sundials have two hands like a clock.

2 People do not use sundials anymore.

erlin was a very
popular
character in the early
10111 century. He was a
magician with great
powers. Many kings of
England relied on him.
King Arthur learned a lot
from Merlin as a child. Later,
he became king because of his help.
When Merlin was born, his parents called him "Emrys".
Later, he changed it to Merlin which is Latin for "Myrddin," the
place he came from. When he became older, people often
described him as a tired old man, but he was, in fact, very
energetic. His magical skills turned him into a legend.
Merlin's big mistake was that he fell in love with the Lady of
the Lake. He taught her all his mystical powers. She became
very powerful. With her own magic spells, she locked Merlin
away in a glass tower.
