• When a suffix beginning with a consonant is
added to a root→ a vowel (usually “O”, very
rarely “I”) is inserted between Root & Suffix
• Combining Form= Root + combining vowel
(neur/o; hemat/o)
• Ex: Neurology
• Neur/o: nerve

• → the study of nerve problems.
