1- Thì quá khứ đơn để diễn tả một hành động đã được hoàn thành trong quá khứ và khơng
cịn liên quan đến hiện tại. Các trạng từ thường đi kèm thuộc về quá khứ như: yesterday, last
Sunday, last week / month / year, ago, time + ago ( 3 days ago) ...
Ex: <i>Yesterday I went to the market and bought some books.</i>
2- Thì quá khứ đơn để diễn tả một thói quen trong quá khứ hoặc một tình trạng trong quá
khứ. Trong trường hợp này thường có trạng từ chỉ thời gian đi kèm.
Ex: a) <i>I always got up late in the morning when I was young</i>. ( chỉ thói quen)
b) <i>I lived in that village for a long time</i>. (chỉ tình trạng)
3- Một chuỗi hành động trong quá khứ, cái này xảy ra sau cái kia.
Ex: At that time, he <i>got</i> out of his car, <i>locked </i>the windows, <i>came</i> to the gate of his vila,
thự của mình, mở cổng và vội vả đi vào).
4- Một hành động xảy ra đồng thời với (hoặc sau) một hành động khác trong quá khứ.
Ex: a) He <i>met</i> his friend while he was driving home.
b) He <i>met</i> his friend after he had posted the letter.
<i><b>Meaning:</b></i>
Use: Express actions happened in the past at a definite time(yesterday, last...,....ago)
- Have students practice asking and answering the questions:

+ pioneer (n) thanh niên tiên phong.
- Get students to ask and answer questions about what each person did on the weekend (Use
the table on page 11)

Chain game (using the simple past tense): two tables, one group
Eg:
A: Yesterday, I got up early
B: Yesterday, I got up early and had a big breakfast
C: Yesterday, I got up early, had a big breakfast and said goodbye to my parents. (etc)
- Teacher gives the picture which they did to prepare for the party. And asks Ss to practice
a farewall party for Maryam. (practice in pairs and then in groups)
<i><b>* Set the scene:</b></i> Lan and her friends are holding a farewell party for Maryam. Write things
they did to prepare for the party using the picture and phrasal verbs above.
- Divide the class into 2 groups. Tell them to name the people in the picture and to go to the
board, write as quickly as they could.

<b>C/ Activity 03:</b>
* The past simple with “wish”:
- Set the scene: Tom is short, he wants to be taller. What will he say?
→ I wish I were taller.
<i><b>Meaning:</b></i> Ước gì, mong ước
Use: Diễn tả điều trái ngược với thực tế
Concept check: + What tense is used for “wish”?
+ What comes after “wish”?
+ What tense is used in the clause after “wish”?
- Have students work with a partner, make wishes for the situations at page 12.
- Give feedback and correct:
- Teacher elicits the lesson and asks Ss to give the sentence structures with “Wish” and “If
only” (giá mà, ước gì)

-> I wish I could have come to the meeting last time.
-> (If only I could have come to the meeting last time.)
- Ask students to complete the exercises and then write them on the board.
- Give the example:
a) You are not very tall. -> I wish I were taller.
- Call each student make the lesson on the board.
