Topic: Some people think that children should begin their formal education at a very early age and should spend
most of their time on school studies. Others believe that young children should spend most of their time playing.

Which view do you agree with? Why?

There is a hot debate these days concerning the education of children. Some people believe that children should
begin formal education at a very early age while others think that young children should spend most of their time
playing. From my perspective, I think children should not be burdened with school early because childhood is the
only time that they will have the chance to live a relatively free life and play. In addition, it contributes to child
development.

To begin with, childhood is a previous time in that it is the one chance that they will have to be carefree and
innocent. Seeing that children are facing up to sixteen years or more of education, there is really no rush to start
them off early. The first years of a child’s life should be for fun and games, not books and homework. It is very
important that children have the chance to learn that enjoying life is also an important lesson to learn. The pure joy
and fun of being a child are too quickly forgotten by most people as it is, so I do not think that it is good to deprive
children of that wonderful period in their lives.
