- By the end of the lesson Ss can recognize and pronounce the letter Zz and its sound.
- Understand, recognize and say the three Zz words.


- Write the letter Zz.


- Vocabulary: zoo, zebra, zip.

- Listening, speaking, reading, writing.

- Encourage Ss to use the structure more regulary.

- Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the chant.

- Model - Talk - Practice, individual work, pair work, group work.
- Some techniques can be used: music chairs, find it.

<b>2. Warm up (5’) </b>


<i><b>Activity: Make up words</b></i>


- T put up the phonics cards from the previous unit on the board
- Write the following letters on the board: g, t, y, r, e, o, c, a, l, w, u
- Ask them to write down the words they can make up


- Tell the student to refer to the phonics cards for help.


- After a limited time, ask the students to say out the words they made up

- Stick the cards on board and have students
repeat the words chorally several times (in the

- Ask the students to colour in the letters.
- Ss colour in the letters.



<i><b>Activity: Which One Is Missing?(3’)</b></i>


- T put the phonics cards face up on the
table/stick them on the board (may use some
cards from the previous lessons)


- Give the students 10 seconds to look at the
cards.


- Have students close their eyes and then you
take away one cards.


- Tell the students to open their eyes and name
the missing cards


<i><b>Activity 2: Listen and point. Colour (7’)</b></i>


- T points to the van and say: Look. A zoo.
- Have students listen and repeat.


- Have students look at the book and listen to
the words: zoo, zebra, zip.


- T asks students listen and repeat the words
for several times.


- Repeat with the rest of the items in random
order.



- Ask the students to look at the pair of
pictures on the side and colour the pictures.
- Ss colour the pictures.


- T go around the classroom asking students to
name the items they are colouring.

- T put up the lyris of the chant on the board.
- Without music, use the phonics card and step

- Ss listen, chant and T give feedback.
- T ask Ss to write the chant in to note book.

<i><b>Activity 2: Memory game (5’)</b></i>


- T put up the cards on the board and ask the
Ss to memorize the order in which the items
appear.


- Ask Ss to close their eyes and remove the
cards.


- Change the cards and repeat the activity.

2A Thursday, April 15th<sub> 2021</sub>


<b>2. Warm up (5’) </b>


<i><b>Activity: Pass the phonics card </b></i>


- T devides Ss in 2 teams (make sure 2 teams have the same number of members)
- T give the first student of each team a phonics card.


- T say: ‘Go!” then the students say the words in the card and pass it over their heads
to the student behind them, who continues saying the word and passing the card to
the behind one.


- The last student in each line races to hand their phonics card to the teacher and
says the word.


- The first team to do so wins (or wins a point- then continue the game).
<b>3. New lesson (30’)</b>

- T asks Ss: Can you see /z/- Zoo. Point to it.
- T encourage the students to point to the picture
of the word that the teacher says.



- T plays the CD. Have the Ss listen to the story
once.


- Ss listen to the story once.


- Play the CD again. The students listen and point
to the pictures of the key words when they hear
them in the story


- Read the story. The students follow in their
books.


- Teacher reads the printed words then let the
students look at the pictures and say the words.
- T asks Ss work in pairs. One reads while the
other checks, then they swap roles. Or one reads
the printed words while the other looks at the
pictures and says the words.


- T go around the class to provide any necessary
help.


<i><b>Activity: Guess </b><b>(5’)</b></i>


- T divide the class into two teams, A and B
- T ask a student from one team to come to the
board


- Whisper one of the vocabulary words (from this
unit) to the student.



- Without speaking, Ss draw a picture of the word
on the board


<i><b>4. Listen. Read along</b></i>


<i>I have a yo – yo.</i>
<i>It is yellow.</i>
<i>I have a yacht.</i>
<i>It is yellow, too.</i>

- The first team to guess the word correctly wins a
point.


- Repeat the activity with a Ss from the other team.
- The team with more points wins the game.


<i><b>Activity 2. Song</b><b> (8’)</b></i>


- Put up the zoo, zebra, zip phonics cards up on the
board.


- Point to the zooand zebra and say: The students
repeat.


- Follow the same procedure and present the rest
of the song.


- Play the CD. The students listen and sing along.
- Play the CD again. The pupils sing and do


corresponding actions. Play the CD again. The
students listen and hold up the corresponding
picture cards.


<i><b>Activity: Correct teacher </b><b>(5’)</b></i>


- T prepare some phonics cards (from this lesson
and previous unit)


- T ask individual student to correct teacher’s
statements.
