<b>TOP TEN VIETNAMESE CHAMPIONS AT OLYMPIC 2008, BEIJING </b>
<b>1- Hoang Anh Tuan (weight lifting, from Da Nang ) - 1,430 points:</b>


Hoang Anh Tuan was born in 1985 in Bac Ninh Province . In 2008, he won 2 gold medals and 1 bronze medal in the
56-kg category at the Asian Championship and a gold medal at the Beijing Good Luck Tournament. Tuan represented
Vietnam at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games where he achieved his highest ever combined lifting weight (290kg) and
won a silver medal for the Vietnamese team.


<b>2. Duong Hong Son (men’s football, from T&T Hanoi) - 1,138 points:</b>


Born in 1982, Duong Hong Son reached the peak of glory in his career when the Vietnamese National Football Squad, for
which he was the goal-keeper, won the Champion Cup of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2008. Son was awarded the title “Best
Player”. In addition, he made a considerable contribution to the T&T Hanoi Football Club when it participated in the
V-League 2009 tournament.


<b>3. Le Cong Vinh (men’s football, from T&T Hanoi) - 913 points:</b>


Born in 1985, Le Cong Vinh made two “spotlights” for the Vietnamese National Football Squad at the AFF Suzuki Cup
2008: he contributed to the success of the goal in the semi-final (2nd leg) over the Singapore team, allowing the
Vietnamese team to enter the final match, and himself scored a goal in the very last minutes of the final match against
Thailand at My Dinh Stadium in Hanoi, handing the Vietnamese team the Champion Cup.


4<b>.Nguyen Hoang Ngan (karate-do, from Hanoi ) - 785 points:</b>


Born in 1984, female karate-do artist Nguyen Hoang Ngan became Vietnam ’s first world karate-do champion when she
outpointed her Italian rival, 4-1. It was the best record Ngan ever achieved in world tournaments or at international
competitions. Additionally, in 2008 Ngan won a gold medal at the France Open, Germany Open and Turkey Open
Tournaments.


<b>5.</b> <b>Nguyen Tien Minh (badminton, from Ho Chi Minh City ) - 688 points:</b> Born in 1983, Nguyen Tien Minh is
currently ranked 17th in the world, the highest ever ranking for a Vietnamese badminton player. In 2008, he won a gold


medal at the Vietnam Challenger, a gold medal at the Vietnam Open and a bronze medal at the Taiwan ( China ) Open. He
entered the semi-final of the Super Series and officially attended the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.


<b>6- Truong Thanh Hang (athletics, from Ho Chi Minh City ) - 534 points:</b>


Born in 1986, Truong Thanh Hang took the lead in the 1,500m race at the Asian competitions in 2008. At the Asian Grand
Prix athletics tournament with 3 competition rounds, Hang won 3 gold medals, ranking tops among the Vietnamese medal
winners. In addition, she won a silver medal at the Asian Stars’ Athletic Tournament.


<b>7- Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son (chess, from Kien Giang Province ) - 378 points:</b>


Born in 1990, International Grand Master Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son won a silver medal in the individuals’ category and a
gold medal in the U-18 team category at the World Youth Chess Championship held for the first time in Vietnam. Son and
his Vietnamese National Chess Team were ranked ninth per 100 teams at the Olympiad 2008. This is the world’s biggest
chess competition that attracts the strongest chess teams from around the world. Currently Son is ranked 13th among the
top 20 youngest grand masters in the world.


<b>8- Doan Kien Quoc (table tennis, from Khanh Hoa Province ) – 257 points:</b>


This experienced table tennis player (born in 1979) made an impressive showing at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. It
was the second times Quoc officially attended the Games after he won over other Southeast Asian rivals in the qualifying
rounds. At the Games, Quoc defeated a rival ranked above him and stood first above 32 other players. In addition, he
bagged 2 gold medals and 2 silver medals at the Southeast Asian Championship.


<b>9- Tran Minh Thang (chess, from Hanoi ) – 225 points:</b>


Born in 2000, this 8-year-old player was voted as one of Vietnam ’s top ten athletes in 2008 after he won the champion
title in the U-10 category of the World Youth Chess Championship, and a gold medal in the U-10 category of the
Southeast Asian Championship.
