Aims : - By the end of the lesson, the students are able to scan reading for specific information. - By the end of the lesson, the students are able to skim reading for general ideas. II. Lexical items : - controversial - celibate - degradation - feminist - purity - refrain - disqualify - object to III. Structures : - Breaking any of those rules disqualifies the contestant - They have particularly objected to swimsuit rounds in competitions. IV. Teaching aids: - textbook - picture / drawings - chalk - handouts V. Techniques : - Skill – based ( reading), communication approach. VI. Procedures : State/time Teacher’s and students’ activities Blackboard 1. WarmGames: which game? – word search up & lead- - Divide the class into two groups in - T shows Ss pictures of a football game, a Stick pictures on the board game show, an athletics or swimming event (3’) (one by one) and ask them to name the activities or programs. - with one correct answer, the group scores one point. - T ask Ss: “ what is the word that can be used to describe the common feature of these activities? Competition - T tells Ss that it is the topic of the next unit - T tells SS to open their books to page 64 and ask them to find words in the word square. They are all related to competition. - one correct word earn the group one point. The group that has more points will win the game. - T has Ss start the game - declare the winner Transition: Today’s reading is about a kind of competition, The Beauty Contest. What is :Period 36 : Unit 5 : like? What do people think about that it? Competitions - Reading - T writes down on the bb : 2. Prereading (5’). Activity 2 : finding the main ideas for each paragaraph. - T writes down on the board two phrases about the main ideas of two p1 and p2 - Ask Sts to skim the text again and match the paragraphs with their suitable main ideas. - When they have finished , tell Sts to compare answers with a partner. - Go over the answers with the class. 5. - Ask Sts to learn new words by heart and Homework review the today’s lesson.
