Period 55 UNIT 9 : A FIRST - AID COURSE Lesson 1 : Getting started - Listen and Read P : Jan 15

th 2017

I. Aims: To help ss to know the situation which require first- aid.

● Objective: By the end of the lesson , Ss can know what they would do in the situation which require first-
aidand use the form of requests with “will”

II. Materials: Text book, posters, pictures.

III. Ways of working: individual, pair , group work .
IV. Anticipated problem

V. Procedure:

1. Warmer: Kim’s game for “ Getting started ”

Ss look at the things on page 80 for 20’’. Tell them these things are often use for first-aid

T : divide the class into two groups. Ask Ss to close their books and go to the board to write the names of the
things they ‘ve just seen from memory

T: asks Ss to discuss and write down what they would do in these situations which require first- aid
Ss : work in groups of four to give their answers T: correct the mistakes

+ Possible answers:

2.Listen and read: ( ss can know how to use first-aid and request with “will” )

a)Vocabulary: * Checking technique : “Slap the board”

- an ambulance

- an emergency

- conscious ≠ unconscious

- (to) bleed the bleeding

b)Listen: ( ss can know the little of th lesson and listen to the dialogue) 
T: sets the scene

Ss: listen to the tape twice

c)Read. ( ss can do the exercises by reading )
* Gap fill

-T : hang on the chart with the paragraph on the board
- Ss: read the text and find the words to fill in the gaps

“ There was an emergency at Lan’s school . A student..(1)... off her bike and hit her head on the road. She was ..
(2).... but she cut her head and the ..(3)....was (4)...badly. Lan telephone BachMai hospital and ask them to send

T: asks Ss to predict the words in the gaps and calls on some Ss to go to the board to write their words.
● Answer keys: Ss: act out the dialogue

- Ss play the roles to demonstrate the dialogue.

- Ss read the dialogue again and do the exercise 2 / page 81

d)Language notes:

T: asks Ss to pick out from the dialogue one sentence with modal verb “ will “ to make request.
Ss: Will you hurry, please?

T: asks Ss to pick out from the dialogue one sentence with the verb “ will “ in simple tense to help Ss review
Ss: I promise I’ ll keep her awake – The ambulance will be there in about 10 minutes.

T:  Form : S + will + V inf ... to express an action happening in the future.
T: gives Ss some more exercises . Use the verbs in the correct form

III. Ways of working: individual, pair , group work .

I. Aim : Listening to a paragraph for details activities taking place in an emergency room. And use in order to/ so as

 Objectives : Help Ss know how to listen for details.

 1. Pre – listening :

- Ask Ss to look at the picture in their books again and match the letter A ,A ,C, D , E , F to the correct words in
the box.

- Explain the situation of the listening paragraph

- Put the table on the board and h ave Ss guess the orders of the

I. Aims: Reading for the instruction about some more situations which require first- aid.

* Objective: By the end of the lesson , Ss will be able to use first-aid for some emergencys
 * Attitude : ss are aware of use first-aid in some cases

II. Materials: Text book , posters , pictures.

III. Ways of working: individual , pair , group work .
IV. Anticipated problems :

V. Procedure:

● Warmer: “Bingo”

T: asks Ss to give the nouns for emergencies which require first-aid and write them on board
 1.Pre-reading : ( ss can know some vocabs about emergency and the tittle of the lesson )

* Attitude : Ss are aware of writing thank-you note to their friends, relatives …

V. Procedure:

● Warmer: “ Shark attack ”
