<i><b>1. Danh từ số ít</b></i>: là danh từ khơng có chữ s đứng cuối từ, những danh từ có a, an đứng
trớc.
<i><b>2. Danh tõ sè nhiều</b></i>: có các quy tắc:
Thông thờng ta thêm S vµo sau danh tõ sè Ýt. A pen -> pens
Danh từ tận cùng bằng F, Fe thì đổi F hoặc Fe thành ves. a
bookshelf-->bookshelves.
Danh từ tận cùng bằng O, trớc O là phụ âm thêm es. Trớc O là nguyên âm chỉ
thêm S. A bamboo -->bamboos - a potato -->potatoes.
Danh từ tân cùng bằng CH, SH, S, Z, X thì ta thêm –es Và đợc đọc là /-iz/
Một số danh từ bất quy tắc khi chuyển sang số nhiều:
* Mạo từ a/ an: Mạo từ đợc đặt trớc danh từ để nói về danh từ đó.
Có 2 loại mạo từ: mạo từ bất định và mạo từ xác định. Trong bài này ta nghiên cứu
mạo từ bất định a/ an.
- a/ an đợc dùng trớc danh từ đếm đợc số ít với nghĩa chung. hoặc có nghĩa là một
- “A” đợc dùng trớc danh từ bắt đầu bằng một phụ âm
- “an” đợc dùng trớc danh từ bắt đầu bằng một nguyên âm
* Số nhiều của danh t.
a) Qui tắc chung: thêm S vào sau danh từ số ít
b) Thêm es vào sau các danh từ tận cïng b»ng: CH, S, SH, SS, X, Z, ZZ
c) Một số danh từ tận cùng bằng “Y” : nếu trớc đó là một phụ âm thì ta chuyển Y

- đọc là /s/ nếu danh từ có tận cùng là: f, k, p, t, th

- đọc là / z/ nếu danh từ kết thúc bằng các âm còn lại.
