<b>I. Objective: </b>

- By the end of the lesson Vv recognize and pronounce the letter Uu and its sound
correctly. Understand, recognize and say the three Vv words.
- Vocabulary: van, vase, violet.
<i>- Sight words:This is my pretty…</i>
<b>2. Skill: </b>
- Listening, speaking, reading, writing.
<b>3. Attitude:</b>
- Encourage Ss to use the structure more regulary.
<b>II. Teaching aids: </b>
- Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the chant.

- Model – Talk - Practice, individual work, pair work, group work.
- Some techniques can be used: music chairs, find it

<b>2. Warm up (5’) </b>
<i><b>Activity: Find it</b></i>
- T prepare all phonics cards from the four previous units(Rr, Ss, Tt, Uu)
- T asks Ss to work in pair.
- T give each pair one phonics card.
- Say one of the words.

- T use a card with letter Vv to introduce to the
students the new lesson.
- Instruct students how to pronounce the letter
name and the letter sound by saying: “This is the
letter Vv The letter Vv says Vv.
- Ask Ss repeat several times and check students’
pronunciation.
- T use the phonics cards with van,vase, violet
read the words out loud and have students repeat.

- T uses gestures to help students to understand the
meanings of the three words.
- Stick the cards on board and have students repeat
the words chorally several times (in the correct
order and then in any order).
- Call some students to say the words out loud and
correct their mistakes.
- Ss say the words out loud.
- Ask the students to colour in the letters.
- Ss colour in the letters.
<i><b>Activity: Where’s the letter?(3’)</b></i>
- Teacher prepares photocopies of a page/ pages
from some story books.
- Ask the students to work in pairs.
- Ss work in pairs.
- Hand out the photocopies and ask students to
search for and circle the letter Vv on the page(s).
- In a limited time, the pair/ group has circled the
most Vvs is the winner.
<i><b>Activity 2: Listen and point. Choose</b><b>(7’)</b></i>
- T points to the van and say: This’s my pretty van.
- Have students listen and repeat.
- Have students look at the book and listen to the
words: van, vase, violet.
- T asks students listen and repeat the words for
several times.
- Ask the students to look at the pair of pictures on
the side and colour the pictures.
- Ss colour the pictures.
- T go around the classroom asking students to
name the items they are colouring.
<i><b>E.g:</b></i> T: (point to the van) This is my pretty ……
Student: van!
<i><b>Activity 3. Chant and show (7’) </b></i>
- Without music, use the phonics card and step Vv
to sing the chant with van. Do the same with
<i>umbrella and ugly. </i>

- Ss listen and chant.

<b>I. Objective: </b>
<b>1. Language focus:</b>
- By the end of the lesson, students will be able to practise the sound of the letter
<i>Vv and the coresponding words. </i>
- Learn and practise reading skills and sing a song.
<i>Vocabulary: review</i>
<i>Sight words: this, is, my, pretty,there, a, in.</i>
<b>2. Skill: </b>
- Listening, speaking, reading, writing.
<b>3. Attitude:</b>
- Encourage Ss to use the structure more regulary.
<b>II. Teaching aids: </b>
- Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the chant.

<i><b>Activity: Correct teacher(5’)</b></i>
- T hold up the phonics cards, one at a time and ask individual students to correct
teacher’s statement.
<i>e.g. Teacher: (hold the up phonics card) It is a van.</i>
<i> Student 1: No! It is a vase! Etc</i>
- T monitors and correct their mistake.
3. New lesson:
<i><b>Activity 1. Listen. Read along (10’)</b></i>
- T encourage the students to point to the picture of
the word that the teacher says.
- T play the CD and ask Ss to listen to the story once.
- T play the CD again.
- Ss listen and point to the pictures of the key words
when they hear them in the story.
- T read the storyand ask Ss follow their books.
- Teacher reads the printed words then let the
students look at the pictures and say the words.
- Ss look at the pictures and say the words.
- T ask students work in pairs. One reads while the
other checks, then they change roles. Or one reads
the printed words while the other looks at the
pictures and says the words.
- Ss to work in pairs.
<i><b>Activity: </b><b>Draw it</b><b>(5mins)</b></i>
- T divides Ss into 2 teams, A and B. Ask two
students from each team to come to the board
- T names a vocabulary item. In 30 seconds, the 2
students have to finish drawing it.
- Ss who finishes first wins a point for his/ her team.
<i><b>Activity 2: Song(7’) </b></i>
- Put the tree, tent, tiger cards up on the board.
- T point to the tent, the tree and say: “There is a v,
<i>v, vase in the van”</i>
- The students repeat.
- Follow the same procedure and present the song.
- T plays the CD. The students listen and sing along.
- T play the CD again. Ss sing and do actions.
<i><b>Activity: Pass the phonics card(5’)</b></i>
- T line up the students in two teams.
- Give the first student of each team a phonics card.
- Say: ‘Go!” then Ss say the words in the card and
pass it over their head to the student behind them,
who continues saying the word and passing the card
to the behind one.
