- By the end of the lesson, students will be able to recognize and pronounce the letter
Dd and its sound correctly.
- Understand, recognize and say the three Dd words.
- Write the letter Dd.
<i>Vocabulary: dog, drum, dragon.</i>

<b>2. Skill: </b>
- Listening, speaking, reading, writing.
<b>3. Attitude:</b>
- Encourage Ss to use the structure more regulary.
<b>II. Teaching aids: </b>
- Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the chant.

<b>2. Warm up (5’) </b>
<i><b>Activity: Memory game</b></i>
- T put the phonics cards (from Unit 1 to 3) on the board.
- T ask Ss to memorize the order of these cards.
- T ask Ss to close their eyes, remove one phonics card randomly and ask individual
students to name it.
- Continue changing the other cards.

to pronounce the words beginning with Dd.
- T use a card with letter Nn or write on the
board the letter Dd to introduce to the students
the new lesson.
- Ask students how to pronouce the letter

students to understand the meanings of the
three words.

<i><b>Activity: Where’s the Letter</b><b>(4’)</b></i>
- T ask Ss to work in pair.
- T hand out photocopies of pages from some
story books.
- T ask Ss to find and circle the letter Dd on
these pages in 2 minutes
- The pair that has circled the most Dds will be
winners
<i><b>Activity 2. Listen and point. Colour (10’)</b></i>
- T ask Ss to look at the books and listen to the
drill: It is a
- T point to the picture of dog and say: It is a
dog. And ask Ss to repeat.
- Follow the same procedure and present the
rest of pictures.
- T play the CD. While the CD is playing, ask
Ss to point to the corresponding picture and
repeat.
- T ask Ss repeat by using the phonics cards of
<i><b>dog, drum, dragon combining with gestures. </b></i>
- T ask Ss to colour the drum using any colour
they like.
<i><b>Activity 3. Chant and show(5’) </b></i>
- T put up the lyrics of the chant on the board.
- Without music, use the phonics cards and
step students to sing the chant with dog. Do

words correctly, do the actions, read the story and sing letter Dd song.
<i>Sight words: it, is, a, with, on.</i>
<b>2. Skill: </b>
- Listening, speaking, reading, writing.
<b>3. Attitude:</b>
- Encourage Ss to use the structure more regulary.
<b>II. Teaching aids: </b>
- Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the chant.

<b>2. Warm up (5’) </b>
- T choose 4 students.
- T give individual students each phonics cards (Dd, dog, drum, dragon)
- Allow them 1 minute tosay the sound of the letter and words and do actions.
e.g. Student 1: (holding the dog card) /d/ dog, imitating barking.

<i><b>Activity 4. Listen. Read along(10’)</b></i>
- T encourage Ss to point to the picture of the
word that the teacher says.
- T play the CD and ask Ss to listen to the
story once.
- Play the CD again. Ss listen, point to the
pictures of the key words when they hear them
in the story.
- T read the story. Ss follow their books.
- T reads the printed words then let Ss look at
the pictures and say the words.
- T asks Ss work in pairs. One reads while the
other checks, then they change roles. Or one
reads the printed words while the other looks
at the pictures and says the words.
<i><b>Activity: Say the Sight Words </b><b>(5’)</b></i>
- T point to and say the sight words: look, at,
<i>the and ask Ss to repeat.</i>
- T call on some Ss read aloud and correct
pronunciation (if any)
<i><b> Activity 5. Song(10’)</b></i>
- T put the dog, drum and dragon phonics
cards up on the board.
- T point to the dragon, the drum and say: “It
<i>is a dragon with a drum, boom, boom-boom”. </i>
- Ss repeat.
- Follow the same procedure and present the
rest of the song ( Ss can turn to page 72)
- T play the CD. Ss listen and sing along
- T play the CD again. Ss sing and do actions.
<i><b>Activity: Correct the Teacher </b><b>(5’)</b></i>
- T hold up the phonics cards, one at a time
- Ask individual students to correct teacher’s
statement.
e.g. Teacher: (holding up dog card) It is a cat!
<i> Student 1: No! It is a dog! etc.</i>
