- By the end of the lesson , students will be able to recognize and pronounce
the letter Dd and its sound correctly


- Understand, recognize and say the three Dd words
- Write the letter Dd

<b>2. Warm up (5’) </b>


Greet students


Review the previous lesson through the ‘Memory game’
- Put the phonics cards (from Unit 1 to 3) on the board


- Ask students to memorize the order of these cards


- Ask students to close their eyes, remove one phonics card randomly and
ask individual students to name it.


- Continue changing the other cards.
- Give feedback

students the new lesson.


Instruct students how to pronounce the
letter name and the letter sound by saying:
“This is the letter <i><b>Dd</b></i> /di/. The letter<i><b>d</b></i>


says /d/.”


Play the CD and ask the students to listen
Ask the students to repeat several times and
check students’ pronunciation (letter


<i><b>Dd</b></i> /di/and its sound /d/)


Use the phonics cards with <i><b>dog, drum, and </b></i>


<i><b>dragon</b></i> read the words out loud and


askstudentsto repeat.


Use gestures (hand actions) to help students
to understand the meanings of the three
words.


Check students’ understanding: Teacher
says the words, all students do actions and


vice versa.


Call some students to say the words out
loud and correct their mistakes (if any)
<b>Activity: Where’s the Letter 2’</b>


Ask students to work in pair


Hand out photocopies of pages from some
story books


The students find and circle the letter Dd on
these pages in 2 minutes


The pair that has circled the most Dds will
be winners

Have students look at the books and listen

Point to the picture of dog and say: It is a
dog. Ask the students to point to it and
repeat


Follow the same procedure and present the
rest of pictures


Play the CD. While the CD is playing, ask
the students to point to the corresponding
picture and repeat


Ask students repeat by using the phonics
cards of <i><b>dog, drum, dragon</b></i> combining with
gestures


Thenask students to colour the drum using
any colour they like.


Go around the classroom, asking students to
name the items they are coloring


<b>3.Chant and show! 5’</b>


Put up the lyrics of the chant on the board
Without music, use the phonics cards and
step students to sing the chant with <i><b>dog.</b></i> Do
the same with <i><b>drum</b></i> and <i><b>dragon</b></i>.


With music, the whole class sings the whole


chant. Do the chant again using gestures for
each word


Give feedback
<b>Activity: </b>


Divide the students into 3 groups (dog,
drum, dragon)


Each group say the appropriate chant while
the rest of the class claps


Ask the groups to show their corresponding
picture cards while they chant

write the <i><b>Dd</b></i> in air with their fingers.

Ask students write down: <i><b>Dd, dog, drum, </b></i>


<i><b>dragon</b></i> into their notebook

- T asks whole class to read the letter aloud.
- T asks whole class to read the chant aloud.

Put phonics cards on the board in a given
order, e.g. dog, drum, dragonInvite the
first student. He/ she says the first word in
the sequence, i.e. dog


Invite another student. He/she says the
next word in the sequence, i.e. drum


Continue with each student saying the next
word in the sequence


Remove one phonics card. Ask students
repeat the sequence, including the missing
word



Continue the same procedure until


students can say the whole sequence from
memory


<b>2. Song 5’</b>


Put the dog, drum and dragon phonics
cards up on the board.


Point to the dragon, the drum and say: “It
<i>is a dragon with a drum, boom, </i>
<i>boom-boom”. The students repeat</i>


Follow the same procedure and present the
rest of the song. Students can turn to page
72.


Play the CD. The students listen and sing
along


Play the CD again. The students sing and
do corresponding actions


<b>Activity: Correct the Teacher 5’</b>


Hold up the phonics cards, one at a time
Ask individual students to correct
teacher’s statement



e.g. <i>Teacher: (holding up dog phonics </i>
<i>card) It is a cat!</i>


<i>Student 1: No! It is a dog! etc.</i>
