<b> Period 2.</b>
<b>I. Objective: </b>
<b>1. Language focus:</b>
- By the end of the lesson, students will be able to practise the sound of the letter
<i>Vv and the coresponding words. </i>
- Learn and practise reading skills and sing a song.
<i>Vocabulary: review</i>
<i>Sight words: where, is the, can, you, see, watermelon.</i>
<b>2. Skill: - Listening, speaking, reading, writing.</b>
<b>3. Attitude: - Encourage Ss to use the structure more regulary.</b>
<b>II. Teaching aids: </b>
- Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the chant, computer,
projector.
III. Method:
- Model-Talk-Practice, individual work, pair work, group work
- Some techniques can be used: music chairs

<b>2. Warm up (5’) </b>
<i><b>Activity: Thumbs up or down (5’)</b></i>
<i><b>- T hold up the phonics cards one at a time to show to the students.</b></i>
- T say the name of the item on the card (Teacher can say correctly or not) and
ask the students to verify the word you say is correct or not by putting their
thumbs up (correct) and down (incorrect).
- Encourage the students to give the correct answer
<i>Eg. Teacher: (holding up the well phonics card): It’s a watch.</i>
<i> Class: (putting their thumbs down)</i>
<i> Teacher: Good! What is it?</i>
<i> Class: Watch! etc</i>

<i><b>Activity 1. Listen. Read Along(7’)</b></i>
<i>- T asks Ss: Can you see /w/- well? Point to it.</i>
- T encourage the students to point to the picture of
the word that the teacher says.
- T plays the CD. Ask Ss to listen to the story once.
- Ss listen to the story once.
- Play the CD again. Ss listen and point to the
pictures of the key words when they hear them in
the story.
- Read the story. Ss follow in their books.
- Teacher reads the printed words then let the
students look at the pictures and say the words.
- T asks Ss work in pairs. One reads while the other
checks, then they swap roles. Or one reads the
printed words while the other looks at the pictures
and says the words.
- T go around the class to help.
<i><b>Activity 2: Colour the Vv letter (7’)</b></i>
- Ask Ss to take out their colour pencils/ crayons.
- Point to the letters and elicit the letters and the
sounds for each.
- Ask Ss to colour the pictures.
- Go around the class providing any necessary help.
<i><b>Activity: Which One Is Missing? Game (5’)</b></i>
- Put the phonics cards face up on the table/stick
them on the board.
- Give the students 10 seconds to look at the cards.
- Ask Ss to close their eyes and take away one
cards.
- Tells Ss to open their eyes, name the missing
cards
<i><b>7. Listen, point and repeat. Colour the pictures of </b></i>
<i><b>the words that start with the v sound. Say the v </b></i>
<i><b>words (6’)</b></i>
<i>- Show Ss the watermelon phonics card. Point to it </i>
<i><b>and say: /w/ - watermelon. Ask them to repeat.</b></i>
<b>- Mime playing the violin and say: /w/ - </b>
<i>watermelon. Encourage the students to do the same</i>
<b>4. Listen. Read along</b>
<i>Where is the well?</i>
<i>Can you see the well?</i>
<i>Where is the watch?</i>
<i>Can you see the watch?</i>
<i>Where is the window?</i>
<i>Can you see the window?</i>
<i>Where? Where? Oh, where?</i>
<b>6. Colour the Vv letter.</b>
- Play the CD. Ss listen, point to and repeat the
word.
- Point to the picture and have students name them.
- Allow the students some time to colour in the
pictures of words start with the /w/ sound.
- Go around the classroom providing any necessary
help.
<i><b>Activity: Practice writing(5’)</b></i>
- T asks a student to come to the board
- Say a word from the lesson and tell the students to
write the word on the board.
- Ask the rest of the class for correction. Repeat
with as many students as necessary.
