Áo bà ba (or Vietnamese silk costume) is a traditional southern Vietnamese item of clothing, which was
named by local people. It is most associated with rural southern Vietnam, especially in the Mekong Delta.
Often worn as a top and bottom set, the Áo bà ba is typically a long-sleeved, button-down silk shirt with a
scooped neck paired with silk pants. The shirt looks almost like the Áo dài, which is slit on the sides of the
waist, but different with two pockets on it.

While the áo bà ba is still traditionally considered a long-sleeve garment, it is always perfectly convenient
for farming work, for craftwork and skilled labor, for child caring, and certainly for cooking and household

chores. As usual, it is worn by both men and women. Sometimes on special occasions, Áo bà ba also
becomes a formal shirt with unique patterns and modern designs.
