-Ask students to review the direct and reported speech

2)Changes in adverbs and articles

-Stick a poster of adverbs and articles on the board
-Divide the class into 2 teams

-Get students from 2 teams to go to the board and write the
pairs of adverbs or articles in direct speech and reported
speech

Activity 2 : Modal verbs ( 1P38 ) (8’ )

-Revision of modal verbs : Ask students to name some
modal verbs with their meanings

Eg : must / have to ... : phải làm gì

-Ask students to give the form of modal verbs
Form : S + modal verbs + Vinfi

-Ask students to do exercise 1P38 individually then pairs
compare

-Call on some students to give their answers

Activity 3 : Reported speech ( 10’)

-Set the scene : Lan’s father held a party to celebrate his
mother’s birthday.Unfortunateny,Lan’s grandma couldn’t
hear what people saying. After the party, Lan reported
everything to her grandma

-Give example :

“ I am happy to see you ” (Aunt Xuan )
->Aunt Xuan said she was happy to see you
-Ask students to work in pairs to do exercise 3P39

Activity 4 : Reported questions ( 9’)

-Set the scene : Nga had an interview for a summer job and
then she told her mother about the interview

-Give example :

“where do you live ? ”

“Do you like pop music ”

->she asked me if / whether I liked pop music
*Revision reported questions

-In reported questions we don’t use the auxilary verbs
( do / did / does )

-When there is no question word ( what / why / when ... ) we
use If / Whether to introduce a reported question

-In reported questions, the words order is the same as in the
statements and we don’t use a question mark

-Ask students to work in pairs to do exercise 4P39
-Call on some students to give their answers

-Write numbers on the board

them are lucky number, students will get 2 points without
answering any questions. For other numbers, students have
to turn the direct speech to the reported speech ( with she ... )
