Read the passage about the topic of endangered species and do the tasks that follow.
In northeast India, there is a war being fought. However, it is not a war between countries or 
groups of people. It is a war between animal and man. Assam, India is covered in rainforests 
which are home to a wide range of wild animals. There are rare monkeys, deer, tigers, and a 
large number of elephants. Assam had few people in the past, which meant that the animals 
were left alone in the forest. Nowadays, the population of subsistence farmers is increasingly 
rapidly. These farmers have to make new farm fields just to feed their families. When they 
begin cutting down the forests, conflict erupts.
In January 2008, villagers in Assam woke up in the middle of the night to a horrible vision. An 
enormous group of elephants suddenly attacked their village destroying crops and over 100 
houses. They also killed an elderly man who was asleep at the time. No one would dream of 
such an attack in the past, but they are becoming much more common. In Assam alone, 
hundreds of people and hundreds of endangered elephants have died in this conflict. The 
government of India cannot find an easy solution to the problem, so villagers continue to take 
the law into their own hands. They use poisons, traps, and electrical fences to protect their 
farmland and kill the elephants. The elephants gather together and fight back.
This problem is occurring not just in India. In poor nations such as Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and

Kenya, this same cycle of violence takes place. Rather than hunters, the real threat to large 
animals like the elephant is farmers. When desperately poor farmers lose their crops to the 
elephants, it is a disaster for their entire family. With the number of people in the world 
increasing so fast, is there any space left for creatures like the elephant, or will they disappear 
from the wild forever?

I think the world is becoming a worse place. It seems like, you know, weapons are becoming 
more advanced and you know people aren't getting along any better. So with everyone having

Is the world becoming a better or worse place? That's a very, very difficult question. I'm not 
really sure of the answer, but I am sure because of the increases in communications and 
technology far more people are now aware of all the bad news that happen in the world, 
compared to say, a hundred years ago, the world may seem like a worse place, but maybe 
that's just because we are better informed.

Interview four.
I think this world is becoming somewhat a better place in respect to technology 
advancements. And with technology advancements and medications, many diseases now can
be cured faster and better. However, many wars still break out like in Syria, Iraq and 
Afganistan. There are civil wars as well, which are not very good, but I think we can overcome 
these bad things and the world will become a better place.

I think the world is becoming a better place in some areas and a worse place in other places. 
When it comes to technology, and advancements, it is definitely better. When it comes to 
humanity and being better people, I think in many areas it's getting worse. I think many people

Sample writing:
Over the past decades, the number of extinct species keeps increasing. This certainly leads to
biodiversity imbalance that will cause unexpected consequences to our life on the planet. To 

protect endangered species, I strongly believe that we should protect the wildlife habitat and 
avoid purchasing things made from endangered species.
For one thing, wildlife habitat needs to be protected. These days the greatest threat that faces 
many species is the widespread destruction of habitat. A lot of activities such as logging, oil 
and gas drilling, and overgrazing result in habitat destruction. To be safe, wildlife animals must
have places to find food, to shelter, and to raise their young.
Besides, each individual can also help to protect the endangered species by refusing to buy 
stuff made from the threatened or endangered species. Sometimes souvenirs available for 
sale in places of tourist attractions are made from animals that are nearly extinct. These 
souvenirs can be the products of tortoise shells, ivory, coral, tiger fur, crocodile skin and so on.
By boycotting these things, we partially help to deter killing endangered animals.
To conclude, maintaining the wildlife habitat and boycotting products made from endangered 
animals are really practical measures to protect them from becoming extinct. Hopefully, more 
and more governments and individuals will see the need to protect these vulnerable animals 
and join hands to create a better world for all living things.
