A traditional Vietnamese family
- There are a lot of children in the family
- Parents often decide who their chikdren will marry
- Wives never decide tio do things in the family without
asking their husbands’ opinions. Men often achieve a
dominant position in the family. The father is the head of the
household who presents authority and makes all the
important decisions. His wife is reponsilible for tehdomestic
side of family life.
- Men rarely cook meals in the kitchen. Cooking is
considered women’s task.
A modern Vietnamese family
- There are only two children intehfamily
- Parents let their children decide whom they will marry
- Both the father and the mother work to earn the living
- The mother takes care of the housework and the children
with the help of the father
