Your situation sounds very difficult. You should try to
understand your American manager. Maybe his
bosses in the US expect a lot from him. So try to
work in the ways that he wants you to work. If the
possibilities are good, you should do everything to

[Good morning, everyone. Before we get down to the
first item on our agenda, I'd like to say a few words of
congratulations. You must really have been paying
attention to me at the meeting last month! Virtually
everyone's sales figures are up this month. I'd like to
single out a few people for special mention: Jane's
sales were up 10%, Tom's sales were up 12%, Nina's
were up 15%, and Rob's were up an amazing 24%, all
just in one month. Great job, everyone! Let's all get
together after work Friday to celebrate.]
[Questions 4 and 5 are based on the following
introductory comments.]
[Ladies and gentlemen, I'd like to thank you for
inviting me and my colleagues from Hyperdata, Inc.
to discuss some innovative systems for storing,
retrieving, and then transmitting information via
satellites, and to demonstrate some of our products
that will allow you to put these systems to work for
you here at North American Dynamics. We've
prepared a multimedia presentation to acquaint you
with our new equipment, but I know some of you
have a few questions, so let's begin with those.]

M: Do you know how many people are going to show up this
evening? I need to call the restaurant to make a reservation.
W: There will be about 10, including me and you. Why don't
you check with Shirley just to make sure? She is the one
who knows exactly who will be showing up.
M: All right, but she stepped out for a moment to mail

come back from lunch. Do you want to join me in the
cafeteria?
W: Sure, I will be right with you. Just give me a second to make
a call to a client first.
