SCRIPT FOR SPEAKING TEST 5
LEVEL 3-5
Part 1: Social interaction (3 mins)
Examiner speaking:
Hello, this is the English proficiency test - the speaking test, levels 3 to 5. The
speaking test consists of 3 parts.
The first part is social interaction. In this part, I will ask you questions about
you and everyday situations, such as work, hobbies and family.
The second part is discussion on solutions. In the second part, you will be
given a situation with three options. You have to choose one and explain your
choice.
The third part is extension on a given topic. In this part, you will first have a
talk on a topic, then you will have to answer follow-up questions.
Now, the test begins.
let’s talk about transport.
Examiner speaking: What kind of transport do you prefer? Why?
(A 30-second pause for the candidate to answer)
I prefer public transport to private transport because I can save a lot of money, reduce
pollution and traffic jams and avoid car or motorcycle accidents. Moreover, public
transport can bring me comfort and close relationship with other people.
Examiner speaking: What kind of transport is the most popular in your country?
Why?
(A 30-second pause for the candidate to answer)
Motorbikes are the most popular in my country because they are cheap, easy to use and
convenient. Most people in my country can have enough money to buy a motorbike and
they can ride their motorbikes without having formal training lessons. They can go
anywhere they like with their motorbikes.
Examiner speaking: OK. Thank you.
Now let's talk about music.
Examiner speaking: - What kinds of music do you often listen to? Why?
A 30-second pause for the candidate to answer)
I often listen to nearly all kinds of music, depending on my mood -from traditional music
to rock music. I don’t believe that good music can only be found in a certain genre,or
from a certain composer. For me it doesn’t matter who composes it as long as it makes
me happy
Examiner speaking: - Do you like Vietnamese traditional music? Why (not)?
(A 30-second pause for the candidate to answer)
I really like Vietnamese traditional music because Vietnam has a rich and creative
heritage of music. All the three regions - Northern, Southern and Central Vietnamhave invented their own genres of music . These types of music are so widely
different from each other and that are unique and complex in their own ways.
Part 2: Discussion on a solution (4 mins)
Examiner speaking: Alright. Thank you. That is the end of part 1. Now let's
move to part 2. In this part of the speaking test, you will be given a situation
with three options. You have to choose one to argue on. You will have to say
which option you will follow and explain why. You will also have to say why you
haven't chosen the other two options. You have 1 minute to prepare your talk
and 2 minutes to talk. Here is the situation.
Situation:
You are going to give a birthday party. Three
locations are suggested: at a bar, at home and an
outdoor place. Which do you think is the best
place for your birthday party?
If I have to choose one of the three locations for my birthday party, I will give my birtday
party at home for many different reasons. Firstly, my home will bring me and my friends
a cosier and more peaceful atmosphere. In fact, a bar is crowded and noisy, so my party
will be badly affected with noise and the presence of other strange people. Secondly, my
home is more comfortable for my party. If I give my party at home, I don’t have to worry
about being wet or dirty. But I have to consider this if I give my party in an outdoor
place. Finally, my home allows me to give my party at any time of the day. Actually, I
don’t have to depend on the booking time of a bar or the closing time of an outdoor place
in a public area when I give my party at home.
Part 3: Extension on a topic (5 mins)
Examiner speaking: Alright. Thank you. That is the end of part 2. Now let's move
to part 3.
In this part of the speaking test, you will have to present on a topic that you will
see in the outline below. After your presentation, you will be asked 3 follow-up
questions related to the topic. You have 1 minute to prepare and 3 minutes to
complete this part. Here is the outline of the topic.

A computer has made a very vital impact on society. It has also changed the way of life.
The use of computer technology has affected every field of life. People are using
computers to perform different tasks quickly and easily. The use of computers makes
different tasks easier. It also saves time and effort and reduces the overall cost to
complete a particular task.
Many organizations are using computers for keeping the records of their customers. For
example, banks are using computers for maintaining accounts and managing financial
transactions. The banks are also providing the facility of online banking.
Computers can be used as a great educational tool. Students can have access to all sort of
information on the Internet. Some great websites like Wikipedia, Code Academy, ByteNotes provide free resources for students and teachers.
People are using computers for watching a movie, listening to songs or playing computer
games. Online services like skype or social media websites are used for communication
and information sharing purposes.
Follow-up questions:
Examiner speaking: Alright. Thank you.
Now, do you think people will continue using computers in the future? What will
computers in the future look like?
(A 45-second pause for the candidate to answer)
Yes, I think so. Because computers are very useful in many aspects of life. Computers
will be used in every field of life such as medicine, education, entertainment,
communication, transport, business, argiculture, industry, airline and weather forecast.
Computers in the future will be smaller but smater and more powerful.
Examiner speaking: Alright. Now, what negative effects do you think computers
have on their users?
(A 45-second pause for the candidate to answer)
Computers can have many negative effects on the users. They can destroy users’ social
life and interaction with other people if they do not maintain the balance. They may cause
harm to users’ eyesight due to the radiation. They may have bad effects on users’ life and
study. They could violate the privacy, have bad impacts on labor force. They hack the
credit card numbers of the people or they can steal important data from big organizations.
Many people use computers for games and chatting. They play games and chat for a long
time. It causes a waste of time and energy.
Examiner speaking: Do you think the young use computers differently from the
old in your country? How?
(A 45-second pause for the candidate to answer)
In my country, young people use computers differently from old people. While young
people spend time playing games and watching films through computers, old people use
computers for finding the information on education and healthcare. Old people like
writing poems and stories on computers while young people use computers to write
emails or chat with their friends. Old people spend less time using computers than young
people do. People prefer to do things in a traditional way while young people like doing
things with the help of computers.
Examiner speaking: OK. Thank you. That is the end of part 3 and also the end
of the speaking test. Good luck!
