III. READING. (2.5points- 0.25/each)
Read the passage, then answer the questions below. (1.5 points - 0.5 / each)
Scientists often divide resources into two groups: renewable and non– renewable. When a resource is
used, it takes some times to replace it. If the resource can be replaced quickly and easily, it is called renewable.
If it cannot be replaced quickly and easily, it is non-renewable. All fossil fuels are non-renewable resources.
Solar energy, air and water are usually called renewable resources because there is unlimited supply of them.
However this definition may change if people are not careful with the consuming of these resources. The
quality of solar energy that reaches the earth depends on the atmosphere. If the atmosphere is polluted, the solar
energy reaching the earth may be dangerous. If life is about to continue, the air must contain the appropriate
amount of N, O2, CO2 and other gases. If humans continue to pollute the air, it will not contain the correct
amount of these gases.
Water is also a matter to take into consideration. Industry is making our water filthy. Therefore, resources
must be conserved; the air and water must be protected. Conservation must play an important part in life.
Question:
23. How many kinds of resources are mentioned in the passage?
______________________________________________________________________________
24. Why are solar energy, air and water usually called renewable resources?
