I. Aim
In our contemporary society, the opportunities and possibilities of mastering foreign language
has become greater for students, both academically and professionally. In response to this
trend, language teachers are motivated to employ the most recent language teaching
methodologies, resources and materials with their students, such as the use of ICTInformation and Communication Technologies. In this project, I will explore one digital tool
– Kahoot that enhances language learning in engaging, interactive environments. I focus on
showing the sample of interactive activities developed in their classes, as well as on sharing
exemplars of work done by students. Overall project goal I will plan and implement a change
related to technology use in my classroom.
II. Background
As I told you in module 2, I describled my class like this:
I am now teaching at Thanh Ha high school which is not a big town and my class- 10 K has
39 students ( 4 boys + 35 girls) who live in the poor villages. Therefore, There are some
typical difficulties in teaching English language as well as not good conditions in applying
for the technology in teaching such as powerpoint, computer and smart board... because of
only having traditional devices: board, chalks or rulers eventhough a few students have
seperate computers or a cell telephones that are not easy to access Internet or cannot be
brought to class too.
In addition, student's levels are unequal and all most students are in elementary one. It seems
to be too bad for the D grade. Students study English for their entrance university
examination and because of their the school’ cirriculumn. After this period, they will graduate
with a flying colour degree, which will help them have a good future job. I will implement
the project in unit 10 in 10 English book. I will apply the tool in reviewing vocabularies and

memnorize grammar structures.

III. Issue or problem to be addressed that technology can help with. What’s wrong?
The issue I want to tell you is that my class is so narrow with 39 students in a small spare.
Firstly, because it is so crowded therefore I have difficulties controlling my class. Secondly,
student's levels are unequal and all most students are in elementary one, which has caused me

typical problems to test or check them. Last but not least, they live in the communes in Thanh
Ha districts so there are so many poor and lower conditions in teaching as well as learning
language or new technologies are strange for them to follow.
In general, in my past periods, my students were often so difficult to understand all
vocabularies as well as memorize grammar structures in my lesson and they were so confused
or bored. Some of them felt sleepy in my classroom. Some students complained to me that
they were disappointed with English and always asked me to teach them from the knowledge
in starting level for example.
Now I think to become a good teacher is not easy, not only do I have knowledge, but I have
to have effective methods and applying technology in my career is more important because of
it good results. Therefore, to solve this problem, I will make a plan to apply one digital
learning tool - Kahoot game for my project during 6 days.

IV. Specific technology solution
The best way I could improve my lesson used to be powerpoint or using visual aids such as
flash cards, devices speakers, computers or pictures… In fact, at first they had also helped my
students be more interested. However, it was so simple for my each lesson because they were
familiar with my students and there was no new thing as a result they gradually made them
bored and sleepy.
I decide to make a plan to change my class. My project will use Kahoot learning tool that I
have never implemented in my class. I apply it in 6 days. Class setting consists of one
projector, 39 computers with access to Internet (wi-fi), 6 fans and, one whiteboard and

markers, and 40 chairs, a speaker, a HDMI adaptor and powerpoint.
Now I will tell you some information about Kahoot tool.
Kahoot ( is a game-based, interactive tool that can be used in any school
subject to approach any topic. Each Kahoot game consists of a collection of questions (a
quiz) on specific topics. Quizzes can be created by both teachers and students; there is no
limit to the number of players for each game. Players answer the questions in realtime by
simply using a code provided by the creator of the quiz. Kahoot allows you to create many
types of question (multiple choice, true or false, sentence completion, etc.) and to add
pictures, as well. While playing a Kahoot game, players will be able to see their scores and
their place in the general scoreboard after each question, which can be very motivating.
Teacher will help students access a quiz on Kahoot online. Students should first access link:
. They just have to open your Kahoot game after teacher gives them codes
games and type in the code as well as their names or nicknames. The names of each player
will appear on the board and, once all players are in, the teacher can launch the game.
Teacher needs to use the projector and the board throughout the whole game, as this is the
only way my students will be able to read the questions and possible answers. Kahoot is

suitable for all age groups. It is an effective tool to support different learning styles and it
works well in motivating students to learn and study.
I also used Kahoot to review vocabulary items as well as memorize grammar topics in unit
10 in 10 English book. The purpose of the tool plays with a group of higher education
students in high school , which focused mainly on vocabulary review. The questions were
very simple and the pictures played a fundamental role in this quiz. As the students’ level of
English was very low, the use of visual aids provided them with confidence, and motivation
to win this game.
I think it is the best way for my class to review or learn vocabularies and memorize grammar
structures as quick as possible. I am sure I will feel satisfied with my results after the lesson
with Kahoot online. This is the first time I apply the new technique in teaching and all
students will be excited with the lesson and they can remember all new words in the unit 10.

However, I suppose there will be some problems that happen to my students for examples,
some computers are not connected, electticity is cut off, 2 or more students do not know
how to access Kahoot game, out of control my class if many students ask everything and one
or two computers are out of order…..eventhough I am a little confused with miror mistakes.
V. Response and reflection
In my response , I will give some things happened in these 6 days and my reflection. I applied
the Kahoot game for my teaching at 10 K class as a tool to engage my students. I used it
when my students were too stressful and bored with learning vocabularies and grammar
structures. I used Kahoot through 39 tables or computers online and I asked my students to
subcribe in (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. and played it
and found the winner for whole class. Most of my students were keen on taking part in the
game as the result, they worked very effectly and enthusiastically. This is the first time I
applied the new technological technique in teaching and all students were excited with the
lesson and they could remember all new words in the unit 10 as well as grammar strutures. It
is quite different and new for me.
I have a chart of day-to-day notes of what happened and your reflections ( you can see it in
the bottom of the paper. You can see clearly what happened and my thoughts.
VI. Changes made or changes to make
These digital tool provide students with the opportunity to work on a variety of language
skills independently, and also interactively, as you will see in the description provided for
each tool. Every app is suitable for any level of proficiency in English and can easily be
adapted to meet individual learning differences and styles. My lesson is easy for them to
understand and more interesting. No members will feel sleepy.
Therefore, if I could have more chance to review what I did, I would do more changes. I
would apply more apps or tools such as make more interactive powerpoint lessons, using
Edpuzzle and Audioboom tools or blogger.com.vn, cross words, hotpot.uvic.ca (Links to an

external site.)Links to an external site., poster.4teachers.org (Links to an external site.)Links
to an external site.,…If the condition were allowed me to do more, I would help my students

approach to a number of application of ICT.
VII. Conclusion and suggestions
How has your teaching changed?
The past few decades have seen many changes and advances in teaching, with technology
playing a part in the way some teachers present and deliver lessons - many of us will
remember a time before interactive whiteboards, email and social media.
We have also seen some positive changes to the school curriculum, as well as increased
diversity and opportunities for students with learning challenges. There are some changes I
want to refer after my results of my project.
- Communication is more open and regular
- The classic chalkboard is a thing of the past
- The National Curriculum
- Teaching assistants are there to help
- Individuality is celebrated as learner autonomy
What are the overall suggestions you would give others as a result of your project?
For students: Students should learn through Twitter, blogs, online conferences, facebook,
elight.com.vn, Youtube, e-mail… etc is just part of my day-to-day life. This is extremely
foreign to many teachers. Students need to become learners autonomy by self- studying
through typical websites : (Links to an external site.)Links to an external
site., />destination=comment/reply/452%23comment-form (Links to an external site.)Links to an
external site., (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.,
and (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site., ect…
For teachers: The role of teachers are also very impotant because teachers play vital roles in
the lives of the students in their classrooms. Teachers are best known for the role of educating
the students that are placed in their care. Beyond that, teachers serve many other roles in the
classroom. Teachers set the tone of their classrooms, build a warm environment, mentor and
nurture students, become role models, and listen and look for signs of trouble. Teachers take
on new roles such as counselor, organizer, material developer, evaluator, and manager,
resource…Therefore, teachers are just guiders to help students find out the easy ways they
have to study.

IX. Day-to-day notes of what happened and reflections
Keep a journal and record the implementation of technology in your course and your
thoughts about it.

Days

What Happened

Day 1

I introduced the students to the
idea of creating a Kahoot their
own at( ). I
gave them the handout, “How to
creat kahoot” for homework and
asked them to read the
instructions. We will create a
kahoot next class meeting.

Students are not as excited about this as I
thought they may be. I will need to
carefully help them create their kahoot so
that they do not become confused.

Day 2

I asked them to send me the link
of the kahoot they had created
yesterday. I checked the link at
my home before going to the
class. If they did not creat a
kahoot I would introduce again
for her or him carefully.

I completed to check the links
that students had created their
own kahoot. I will give marks or
feedbacks for them.
I created many types of question
(multiple choice, true or false,
sentence completion, etc.) and to
add pictures, as well. While
playing a Kahoot game, my
students will be able to see their
scores and their place in the
general scoreboard after each
question, which can be very
motivating.
I asked my students to join in
kahoot game. I gave them a
code for my game. My students
can then go to http://kahoot. it/
on their mobile devices (or
computers) and type in the code
as well as their names or
nicknames. My students could
answer questions as well as true
or false.

I thought all my students could do but 1/3
students could not do because they had
problems with connecting, lacking devices,
and felt confused with introductions. I will
tell them again.

Day 3

Day 4

Day 5

Day 6

I went on practising with kahoot
in different types such as
multiple choice and sentences
completion.

My Thoughts

Students tried to finish their task. Most of
them know how to create a kahoot.
Sometimes I felt confused with my students’
questions

I showed them the way to subcrible in the
kahoot that I had created before. I also
introduced the tasks thay had to play and
the rules of playing. I suppose that all can
take part in the kahoot game.

My students will play with the game
enjoyably. They can review vocabularies
and memorize grammar strutures in unit 10

easily.

My students are engaged with interesting
tasks and they can immediately get their
marks or know your order in learning. I
can show them some typical mistakes as
well as improve their skills. My students
seem to cooperate and stimulate the game.

X. Conclusion
The games bring a lot of interaction to the classroom. You are in control of advancing the
questions. It allows my students the opportunity to build discussion time between questions.
The majority of students enjoy the competitive nature of the game and comment that it helps
them retain concepts.
I think my project will be very new for both my students and teachers. It will change
dramatically the lessons, which helps students engange and stimulate them so much.
Therefore, it is the most effective tool for teachers to apply in teaching as learning. I am sure
that if we know more about technology and use it properly, we will attain good results more
than we can expect.
Advice for later students
After this course, I realise that the world is not big as we think and It seems that there is
nothing which human cannot do.
Your job is going to get some troubles, your life is becoming more and more boring and
trouble or you are desiring changes your position ect... I will give you the very useful advice
which will tackle your daily or long issues. It is IMFORMATION TECHNOLOGY that you
can apply everything and every where for your all purposes in your life.
In fact, IT has been used in every fields in our life such as; business, telecommunication,
service, tourism, air-line, politics... and teaching profession. We cannot deny its great
benefits, take me an example, before I was so disappointed with my job because I had always

to follow a certain syllabus that was so out of date. My students often complained to me that
English was so difficult as well as they found it frustrating. I was worried about students'
complaints and I myself felt bored with my major. I tried to make some changes for my
lesson in classroom too but these seemed not to be enough, even though I felt suspicious
myself. One day I decided to take part in M.A course in order to find out many effective and
new solutions that would help my students overcome difficulties and engage them

in

studying English. Now, during this course, ICT course has impressed me so greatly because
of it useful applications for my teaching.
Firstly, IT makes me more self- confident both in my teaching as well as my life skills. When
I know how to use a computer, how to use all modern devices such as smart phones,
televisions, or tablets, powerpoints , I will control and direct many things just by a computer
accessing by the internet. Even everyone admires me by my knowledge in technology, I can

support them real issues like buying foreign products, searching informtion needed, restoring
private information, and subcribing learning websites.... I am so proud of myself when I can
do and help everyone around me.
Furthermore, at my class, ICT may help me more effortless because ICT provides materials
that make the class more interesting and easy to control. The existence of several sorts of ICT
tools gives the class other support of learning especially in terms of visual and auditory
learning. As

we know,

there

are

some

wesites

:

,

, ...that are very useful for me to stimulate my
students to learn English. In general, ICT makes me change my thought about the teaching
methods. Thanks to ICT, my students are more creative and active, besides, It is a useful aid
to problem solving through accessing to a world of knowledge and research. Especially, It
support effectively for the quality of presentation performed by teachers as well as students.
Last but not least, I can also experience the Canvas that which is a useful learning platform
for students of all levels. Especially, Ms Lan Huong, who taught me in this course, is very
beautiful, active and intelligent. She provided us so many new and interesting websites and
taught us how to create own websites as well as quizzes that I never did before.
In short, what about you- later students ? Are you curious or suspicious about this ICT course
after you read my writing here? You do not think so much because these above I have written
are true from my experience. If you want to check these, participate in this course!
(THANK YOU - Ms Lan Huong!)
