GLOBAL WARMING
There is little doubt that the planet is warming. Over the last century, the planets temperature has
risen by around 1 degree fahrenheit (0.6 of a degree celsius). The warmest since the mid 1800’s
was the 1990s. The hottest years recorded were 1997, 1998, 2001, 2002, 2003.
The United Nations panel on climate change projects that the global temperatures will rise 3-10
degrees fahrenheit by the century’s end - enough to have the polar caps all but melted. If the ice
caps melt, a vast majority of our countries borders will be under water. Monuments and great
buildings, as well as homes and lives will be under water, including New York City.
So now we know what some of the causes are for global warming, how can we as individuals do
our part to help save the planet?
The answer is simpler than you may think. You don’t have to go miles away from home to
protest, or spend masses of money. If you try to follow the few simple steps that I shall now give
you, you will have started to help us all.
Firstly, plant a tree. This could be easier than it sounds. Join or help out a local wildlife group
and ask to plant a tree. Trees, when fully grown, will help keep the planet cooler. On the same
point, you could protest against the demolition of the rainforests. This is the same principle, we
need the trees to cool our planet and yet they are chopping them down to create roads or homes.

Something as simple as walking instead of taking the car will help reduce pollution. As well as
stopping pollution, you are giving yourself exercise, something important for our bodies. So the
next time you get into your car, or your motorbike, think - do I have to make this journey by
vehicle or can I walk?
When you are at home, and you are getting a little cold. Put a jumper on and do not adjust the
heating. The extra heat produced by our homes also affects the planet. So try wearing an extra
layer in winter.
If possible, buy your fruit and vegetables from local suppliers. And try to avoid imported goods.
The more foreign food that we import the more pollution from aeroplanes and boats it will
create.
Keeping to the speed limit can also help the environment. The more you speed the more petrol
you are going to use, making the pollution higher. Also, SUV’s make about six times their own
weight in CO2 each year. A small efficient diesel car covering the same distance not only uses
much less fuel; it makes two thirds less.
If possible use solar energy, after all it is free; all you need to buy is the equipment. You can get
much of your hot water and heating from the sun and even generate electricity.
Reduce, reuse and recycle. Only buy what you need; don’t stock the cupboards with things you
may or may not use. Reuse whatever you can, like containers and paper, and recycle what you
cannot reuse. It really is as simple as that.
Finally turning off unused sources of power such as televisions and heaters will help the
environment, as well as save you money.
If everybody stuck to these rules, we would be doing a great thing by protecting the earth. So
please take into consideration what I have said, and try to do your part. After all, it will be our
next generation that will feel the effects.

ORGAN DONATION
Ladies and gentlemen, today I am here to share with you my views on organ donation, in the
hope that you will take them on board and give someone the ultimate gift after you have left this
earth - the gift of life.
Ladies and gentlemen, at this moment in the US there are 79,000 U.S patients on the transplant
waiting list. Three thousand a month are added to this total. Not a lot you may say when the
population is close to three hundred million, but now add twenty to thirty family and friends to
each patient, and the number increases vastly.
Every day between 16 and 17 people die whilst waiting for a transplant. Again you may say not a
lot - but in the average mans' lifetime the death toll is 1,980,160 - almost two million people.
Ladies and gentlemen you can help. By donating your vital organs after you have passed away
you can save lives.
For the more sentimental of you, of the 79,000 patients waiting for a transplant, over 10 per cent
of these are children under 18 years of age.
So, how can you help? All you have to do is get in touch with your local doctor and he will tell
you all you need to know. You fill out one form, and receive a card; it really is that easy. Then,
once you have passed away in many years to come, your organs will be removed and will give
somebody else the chance of life.
After a transplant of a vital organ, the average survival rate is over 80%. A massive increase from
the 20% that would live without the surgery.
Some people worry. Will they be left open after the surgery as they are already dead, or will they

still be able to have an open casket funeral? The answers to these are simple. You will be treated
with the up most respect in the surgery and the same procedures apply to the body as a living
body. And yes, you will be able to have an open casket funeral if you wish to.
Ladies and gentlemen - the gift of life is the most amazing gift anybody can give. How I see
things, and what made me become a donor, is that after I am gone I will have no use for my
organs. So why should I deprive someone else from using them?
Please consider what I have said today. Thank you.

LOSE THE FEAR: GET OUT THERE AND SPEAK
1. An opener building on areas of agreement

5. Memorable concluding remarks
You've heard it said many times before - the fear of speaking is considered by many as their
number one fear, outdistancing death and divorce. There are stories of entertainment superstars
who undergo extraordinary episodes of stage fright immediately before they perform fearful of
appearing before groups. That anxiety may even prevent us from reaching our fullest potential
since we may tend to avoid speaking opportunities altogether that could advance our career.
While there are many effective methods of relaxation that can help reduce our fear of speaking,
the most important step is fundamental. We must begin by recognizing that making presentations

is a learned skill. For most of us, it is not something we can simply get up and do effectively
without having at least some basic training.
Many executives have unrealistic expectations about their speaking ability, believing that they
can achieve proficiency without much effort. This attitude leads to significant frustration when
their lax efforts fail to produce the desired results. As one CEO told me during a coaching
session, "If I can run a billion dollar company, then I ought to be able to give a twenty minute
speech without being fearful!"
I address the fear and frustration issues by asking executives, "How many times do you give
major presentations each year?" It is usually a small number -perhaps five times. Then I ask,

"How often do you make major decisions at the company?" "Practically every day, of course" is
the common answer. I respond, "So why do you expect your speaking skills to be as developed
as your decision-making ability? You simply do not speak enough to have overcome those fears
of public speaking."
Once you accept the fact that making effective presentations is a learned skill, taking the time to
rehearse is a natural step. Rehearsing your presentation over and over again will greatly reduce
anxiety. David Peoples, who has trained more than 8,000 IBM salespeople, says, "The single
most important thing you can do for sweaty palms is rehearse. The second most important thing
you can do for sweaty palms is rehearse. Guess what the third thing is?"
The more familiar you become with your material, the more the words flow from you credibly
and passionately. The more comfortable you feel with your words, the more naturally you
present your speech. That's why good speakers practice - and practice again. Here are two simple
ways for you to rehearse your presentation. Videotape - Nothing will improve your presentation
more than seeing yourself on videotape. You will notice mannerisms about yourself that you
never noticed before. And you will instantly begin to make changes Audiotape - Listening to

yourself on audio tape is another tool to use when you rehearse your presentations. Immediately,
you'll know if you are speaking too quickly, too slowly, or if some words are difficult to
understand. You will hear mistakes in grammar and inappropriate "um's" and "ah's" that are quite
easily removed from your presentation when you are aware of them. The audio sessions will also
help you zero in on content and vocal skills.
