SPEAKING SECTION
Guide:
Each student has 1 minute for preparation and then 3 minutes to talk about one of the topics in the
list. Teacher will have one minute to ask students some questions. There are four topics in this list.
Ask students to select the topic by picking a number. Use the scoring guide to assess students’
speaking.
TOPIC 1: Describe one of your friends
1. What’s his/ her name?
2. When, where and how you first met him/her
3. How old is he/ she ?
4. Where does he/ she live?
5. What’s his/ her job?
6. What does he/ she look like?
7. What is he / she like?
8. Does he / she have any hobbies or interests?
9. Do you spend much time with him/ her?

11. What are your feelings towards him/ her?
12. Which of his/ her qualities impresses and influences you most?
TOPIC 2: VOLUNTEER WORK
1. Have you ever done volunteer work?
2. What kind of volunteer work did you participate in?
3. What exactly did you do?
4. Why did you do volunteer work?
5. What did you get from doing this kind of work?
6. Do you want to do any volunteer work any longer?
7. What activities can we do to help the community?
8. What kind of volunteer work are you going to take part in? Why?
9. Do you think that people should take part in some volunteer work or community activities?

TOPIC 3: Describe a party
1. What kind of party was it?/ On what occasion was the party held?
2. Who gave the party?
3. Where did it take place? Was it a nice place?

5. How to celebrate a party?
6. How many people attended the event?
7. What activities did you do there? / Did you play games there?
8. Did you have a good time?
9. How were the people like?
10. What about foods and drinks?
11. What did you think about the party? / Did you enjoy it?

TOPIC 4: Describe a competition
1. Have you ever seen or taken part in a competition/contest?

3. What type of competition / contest was it?
4. Who organized it? Who participated in it?
5. What were the rules of the contest?
6. What was awarded to the winner?
7. Who won the competition/ contest?
8. Did you enjoy it? Why/Why not?
9. Is the winning the most important thing in a competition? Why/Why not?
10. Do you hope to win a competition? If so, which competition do you like to win?
