INVERSION
It is usually used in writing in order to change ordinary sentences or structures. There are some types
of invesion.
1. too- so
EX: She is tall and I am ,too.
She is tall and so am I
2. either- neither
She is not tall and I am not either
She is not tall and neither am I
3. Seldom,Hardly(ever), Rarely, Scarecely, Little, Never… +inversion
I have never seen that film before.
Never have I seen that film before
4. Only + once/ later/ in this way/ then …+ inversion
+ after/ by/when/if+ noun/gerund/clause + inversion
When I went abroad to study, I realized that it is very important to me.
Only when I went abroad to study,did I realize that …………
5. At no time/ On no condition/Under no circumstances/For no reason/ In no way/No longer…
He used to cry at night
No longer does he cry at night.
6. No / Not + Noun + inversion
I will never lend you a pound.

7. Hardly+ had+ S+ P2+ when
No sooner+ had+ S+ P II+ then ( …vừa xong thì….)

Hardly had I gone to bed when the bell rang.

8. Not only+ inversion + but+ S + also+ inversion.

9. so/ such
He worked so hard that he forgot the rain.
So hard did he work that he forgot the rain.

10. Not until/ Only when + clause + inversion.
I did not realize who he was until he came into the light.
Not until he came into the light, did I realize who he was.
11. No where

12. Inversion + conditional sentences
Type 1: If he comes, I will tell you.
Should he come, I will tell you.
Type II. If I were you, I would love her.
Were I you, I would love her.
. If I did not knew French, I would not gone to Paris.
Were I not to know French, I would not gone to Paris.
Type III. If I had known French, I would have gone to Paris.
Had I known French, I would have gone to Paris.
