CÁCH DÙNG:
1. Thì quá khứ đơn diễn tả một sự việc xảy ra tại một thời điểm cụ thể
trong quá khứ và đã kết thúc hoàn toàn ở hiện tại
Ex:
I saw him in the bar club
(Tôi thấy anh ta trong quán rượu)
They didn’t agree to the deal
(Họ không đồng ý với hợp đồng)
- Thường dùng với các cấu trúc: last + thời gian; khoảng thời gian + ago; in +
thời gian trong quá khứ;…

Ex: She left last Tuesday
(Cô ấy rời đi vào thứ Ba vừa rồi)
In 1998, I was just a child in 9
(Vào năm 1998, tôi chỉ là một đứa bé 9 tuổi)
II.

Diễn tả một sự việc xảy ra trong một khoảng thời gian trong quá khứ và
đã kết thúc hoàn toàn ở hiện tại:
- Có thể dùng với các cụm từ như for + khoảng thời gian; from…to…
Ex: I lived in New York city for 3 years
(Tôi đã sống ở thành phố New York 3 năm)
We were in Tokyo from Monday to Friday of last week
(Chúng tôi đã ở Tokyo từ Thứ Hai đến Thứ Sáu tuần trước)

Diễn tả một sự việc lặp đi lặp lại hoặc xảy ra thường xuyên trong quá
khứ và bây giờ không còn nữa, thậm chí hành động đó chưa bao giờ xảy
ra trong quá khứ
- Trạng từ chỉ tần suất(often, usually, always,…) + cấu trúc When I was
young, When I was a child, When I lived there,…
Ex: When I was young, I often played guitar
(Khi tôi còn trẻ, tôi thường chơi đàn ghi-ta)
When I lived there, I usually cleaned the house carefully.

CÁC DẤU HIỆU NHẬN BIẾT THƯỜNG GẶP
- Thì quá khứ đơn thường xuất hiện trong câu có những từ sau đây: yesterday,
ago, finally, at last, in the last centyry, in the past, last(week, month, year), in
(2013, June), in the (2000, 1970s), from (March) to (April),… Ngoài ra bạn nên
chú ý đến các từ chỉ thời gian quá khứ khác và ngữ cảnh của câu nói.
Ex: I watched “Iron man” film two week ago
(Tôi đã xem phim Người sắt 2 tuần trước rồi)
I was in England from March to April
(Tôi đã Anh từ tháng ba đến tháng tư)
I was in England for a month
(Tôi đã ở Anh trong 1 tháng)
