5. Who is Dr Roylott? Describe this man. He married Julia and helen’s mother when he was in

violent, he doesn’t want his stepdaughters to marry because if they get marry, he looses all
the money his wife left him.
6. Why does Miss Stoner visit Sherlock Holmes? She is frightened, her sister died before her
marriage and she thinks she ‘ll die the same way. She suspects her stepfather but the police
didn’t find anything wrong after her sister’s death. She can hear a “whistle” in her bedroom
like her sister.
7. Why does Dr Roylott visit Sherlock Holmes right after his stepdaughter? He threatens Holmes
not to deal with his business. He says he is a dangerous man.
8. What does Holmes decide to do, after the threat? He wants to see Dr Roylott’s house.
9. What evidence does Holmes have? What is strange about the girl’s room? There is a bell
rope which doesn’t pull, and a ventilator which doesn’t ventilate and the bed cannot be
moved from the floor.
10. What other evidence does he find in Dr Roylott’s room? A bowl of milk, a small dog lead
(laisse pour chien), an iron box
11. What/Who killed Dr Roylott? What was it supposed to do and how? A snake, it was supposed
to kill Helen Stoner while she was sleeping. The snake was put into an iron box and during
the night, the snake went passed the ventilator and went to the girl’s bed and bit her (or
not). The master (Dr Roylott) whistled to bring the snake back before daylight. He used a
bowl of milk to attract the snake.
