UNIT 6: COMPARISONS
(Các dạng so sánh của TÍNH TỪ và TRẠNG TỪ)
1. So sánh bằng: As....as....
S + tobe + AS/SO + Adj + AS + O.
S + V + AS/SO + Adv + AS + O.
Mary is as tall as Jane.
Peter drives as carefully as me/I do.
Bob isn’t so fastidious as his father.
He speaks English as fluently as me.
S + V + As + Many/much/few/little + Noun + As + O.
S + V + THE SAME + (Noun) + AS + O.
I ate as many potato chips as I could.
Please complete as much information as you can.
The house is/has the same height as mine.
He is/has the same age as me = His age is the same as mine.
Note: Đặt twice, three times, four times,... trước chữ AS đầu tiên để chỉ sự nhân lên nhiều
lần. Tương tự với nearly, almost, just để bổ nghĩa thêm cho Adj/Adv.
He has three times as many books as me.
This table is twice as large as that one.
The second book is nearly as exciting as the first.
2. So sánh hơn và so sánh kép.
a. Tính từ/trạng từ ngắn
Là tính từ/trạng từ 1 âm tiết và tính từ 2 âm tiết tận cùng là chữ “y”.
Ex: dark, hot, long, short, fast, hard, happy, pretty, scary, ....
S + tobe/V + short Adj/adv –ER + THAN + O.
Today is hotter than yesterday.
Nam runs faster than Hung does.
b. Tính từ dài
Là tính từ/trạng từ có 2 âm tiết trở lên.
S + tobe/V + MORE/LESS/ + long Adj/Adv + THAN + O
This chair is more comfortable than the other.
He speak English more fluently than I do.
Note: So sánh hơn có thể được nhấn mạnh bằng cách thêm much, very much, far, even, a
little, a bit, any, no, still. Từ Very không được dùng trong trường hợp này.
He is a bit taller than me.
This one is even worse than that one.
c. So sánh kép: càng...càng...
The + SS hơn + S + V, the + SS hơn + S + V.
Ex: The hotter it is, the more tired I feel.
S + tobe/V + SS hơn + AND + SS hơn
Ex: You are younger and younger.
Her story is more and more interesting.
3. So sánh nhất
S + tobe/V + THE + short Adj/Adv-EST
+O
S + tobe/V + THE + MOST/LEAST long Adj/Adv + O
John is the tallest boy in the family.
These shoes are the least expensive of all.
This hotel is the most beautiful one in this city.
Note: Có thể thêm số thứ tự trước hình từ so sánh nhất để chỉ vị trí, thứ hạng.
Ex: United Airlines is the second largest airline in the United States.
4. Các trường hợp ngoại lệ
Good/well – better than – the best
Bad/badly – worse than – the worst
Many/Much – more than – the most
Little – less than – the least
Far – father/further than – the farthest/furthest
Old – older/elder than – the oldest/eldest
5. Dấu hiệu của SS bằng, SS hơn và SS nhất
- SS bằng: gặp AS/SO...AS..., gặp twice, three times,...
- SS hơn: gặp THAN, gặp từ nhấn mạnh even, far, much,...
Khi gặp các cụm of the two, of the pair, between them thì chọn The + SS hơn.
Ex: My cat is (prettier/the prettier/the prettiest) of the two.
- SS nhất: gặp THE, EVER (thì HTHT), OF ALL, OF THE THREE/FOUR...,
POSSIBLE, có các cụm giới hạn nơi chốn như in the world, in this city, in my class,...
