• Market:
According to statistics of Customs of Vietnam, 2015, the value of imports of petroleum
products (excluding oil and gas) is about $ 1 billion, including lubricants, additives, base oil and
bitumen. We do not have specific figures for each sector, but noted the drop in volumes and
revenues of all major oil firms in Vietnam, about 12% compared with 2014, but in return there
spectacular growth of domestic oil firms and imports 20%. Therefore, the portion consumed, we
estimate consumption and grease lubricants in Vietnam in 2015 is about 370 thousand tons of
products. No significant increase compared with 2014.
9
LE VU NAM IB2012B
Policy import tariff of 5% base oil, additives 1%, about 95% of imported oil products subject to 5%
tax (except for some special kind ester derived from animal or HS code 20% 3403.). All taxable
10% VAT (value added). 2015, Vietnam and ASEAN countries will cut most of 0% import duty,
but we still do not have confirmation on the new tax rates for the oil industry (HS code 2710.19)
for Form D (with source origin from ASEAN countries).
In 2014, the exchange rate between the VND / USD increased by 2% (interbank rate), but
the average exchange rate fluctuations increased by 3.5% with commercial banking.
Unlike a few years ago, the economic industrial zone and business are not only centered
around Saigon and Hanoi, but the industrial park has been established and developed economic
regions such as the Northern Midlands (Taiyuan, Vinh Phuc, Bac Ninh), North Central (Ha Tinh,
Nghe An, Thanh Hoa), Central Central (Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh) and Southeast
(Saigon, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, BR VT). Therefore, oil consumption may shift regions and
distribution channels here have spectacular growth compared with the provinces / cities of the
country.
Thus, the strategy of expanding consumer markets throughout the country and focused in
the industrial park of the company is reasonable.
The main markets of VHP are Asian countries and domestic market. Products are mainly
imported from India, Korea and China. Otherwise, domestic market is the priority for output
products of the company. In the future, the Southern market is going to be the potential market for
VHP for wholesale and retail activities.
• Targeted customer:
- According to the strategy of VHP, they aimed to agencies in the Central and Northern region in
Vietnam as their targeted customer.

made by director department.
Besides product policy, price policy is one of the key point in marketing strategy of VHP. It plays
an important role in the success of strengthening the position of products, competing and gaining revenue
for the company. To achieve the target for increasing ability to compete with other competitors, VHP
made a plan for low price with high quality and exclusive product. To be sure that all the products will be
consumed, staffs in sales and marketing department have to do research thoroughly, appreciate and
16
LE VU NAM IB2012B
estimate exactly demand in the market. Base on the research, the company can choose the equipment with
suitable capacity to avoid wasting labors and machines, reduce the unnecessary fixed cost.
After 6 weeks interning in VHP company, I realize that the advantages in sales and marketing
activities of the company is the best price policy and wide distribution channel. However, advertising
activity is focused lesser and organizational structure of marketing has little coordination to get the best
efficiency.

CHAPTER 4: THE PERSONAL EXPERIENCE ACQUIRED THROUGH THE TRAINING
COURSE
4.1. Knowledge learned
Through 7 weeks of training process at the VHP Company, I got a lot valuable working experience
and soft skills. In my opinion, these precious experiences will help me a lot for my future job. The
following is some of experiences which I gained during this training course.
The first, the training course brought to me the opportunity to use my English knowledge through
communicating with foreign customers and translating many documents. I recognized that my English
was improved so much through practice. I learned a lot of vocabulary, information and knowledge in
business as well as know how to use translation methods. The second, with the guides of my supervisor
and everybody in the company I learned how to photocopy, receive and send faxes. I also had chance to
practice doing something in the office such as delivering fliers, sticking and cutting paper. Although those
look simple, they also gave us difficulties when facing to the real life. For example, I know how to deliver
advertisements effectively while many people. Especially I also learned so many important skills in
dealing with customers and working with staffs. Moreover, in spite of short time of training process, the
internship course at the company makes me feel more confident and patient than before.
4.2. Skill gained
In conclusion, after this practice, I feel grown-up with experience in communication, skills to
solve difficulties gained in sales and marketing department. These experiences, I always had written
recorded carefully as “fund of knowledge” by myself.
To sum up, I have learned many necessary experiences include:
•
•
Gaining experience by applying my knowledge and skills in work related situations.
Gaining the practical real work experience
•
Clarifying my career goals with professionals helps me make a decision if the field is for me or not.
•
Expanding my knowledge by seeing how others problem solve.
•
Establishing a network of contacts, mentors, and references that will be of value for future letters
and support.
•
I also learned some good characteristics like attentiveness, initiative, loyalty, maturity, respect for
confidentiality and discretion, a positive attitude and independence.
I think that the time for my internship course is so short. Seven weeks is too short for us to get
enough experience in working and skills in working environment. So I hope that the time for
internship course should be longer.

4.3. Results achieved
Moreover, the internship has many benefits for me.
Firstly, it provides experience and knowledge for me. Through internship, I get not only get a firsthand experience of these theories, but also learn the applications of these theories in real challenges. Also,
VHP exposure allows me to enhance my knowledge and contribute it to the company in their specialized
fields.
Secondly, it helps me improves my skills. It exposes me to skills, such as oral and written
communication, presentation, leadership, planning, time, and project management.
Finally, doing an internship is a great learning experience in itself. From it, I can identify my
strengths and weaknesses, and use both of them to the best advantage of my future job and company.
4.4. Recommendations and Conclusion
Since the action program will be carried out in the next year, VHP should have some ways to
evaluate the effectiveness of the action plan.
Firstly, VHP should concentrate on the advertising of the new product so the awareness of
customers is the most important thing. The company will set up Customer Awareness Surveys. These
surveys are designed to know the knowledge of customers about the new products so that the company
can adjust its advertising campaign.
Secondly, VHP release the new product in March so the customer’s satisfaction should be
concerned. By carrying out Customer Satisfaction Surveys, the managers can understand more about the
need and want of customers. So VHP can make needed decision to satisfy the customers.
Finally, in term of sales, Annual Reports of the company and Sale figures will be analyzed
carefully. In these reports, we can see the number of actual customers for the new product and the number
of sold products. The company can also compares its performance with the other competitors like VTC or
Gameloft. Therefore, the action plan will be adjusted for the next period.
