Hello teacher and friends, welcome to my presentation, my group is called A
Green Planet. My name is …….. Today I want to talk about water pollution. I'll try to
answer all of your questions after the presentation.
As you know, over two thirds of the Earth’s surface is covered with water. As the
Earth’s population continues to grow, people are putting ever-increasing pressure on the
planet’s water resources. In fact, water pollution is one of the most serious problems that
human have to face.
So? What does water pollution mean? Water pollution is the contamination of
lakes, rivers, oceans, or ground water, usually caused by human activities.Virtually any
human activities can have effects on the quality of the water enviroment. Firstly, people
dump rubbish and sewage directly into the water. Secondly, the chemicals that farmers
fertilize the fields are gradually washed by rain into the groundwater or surface water
nearby. Next, somefactories pollute water by dumping their waste materials into the
rivers, canals and ponds…and may even cause algal bloom at estuaries and sea surfacealso known as Red tide. In addition, boats and ships can pollute water by spilling oil,
food waste and human waste into the rivers, seas. Water pollution can have a lot of bad
effects on the life of human, animals and plants. It causes diseases. In many poor nations,
people don’t have clean water to drink. They can even die if they drink contaminated
water. Moreover, polluted water kills fish and other marine life. In addition, herbicides
can kill aquatic plants. Groundwater contamination from pesticides causes reproductive
damage within wildlife in ecosystems. So we should take action now to reduce water
pollution. Factories should have sewage treatment systems. The government should
develop programs to make people aware of serious effects of water pollution. If farmers
use chemicals and pesticides for their gardens and farms, be careful not to overuse
pesticides and fertilizers. In conclusion, water pollution is a serious problem that we need
to take steps to solve before it’s too late.
