Các từ chỉ số lượng ( QUANTIFIERS)
Các từ chỉ số lượng thường được chia thành hai loại – xác định và không xác
định.
A. CÁC TỪ CHỈ SỐ LƯỢNG KHÔNG XÁC ĐỊNH
Các từ chỉ số lượng không xác định chỉ một số lượng chung chung
không cụ thể. Các từ này thường đứng trước danh từ số ít, số nhiều
hoặc danh từ không đếm được.

Chú ý :
a. Dùng some trong câu khẳng định, any trong câu phủ định và câu hỏi.
e.g. I have some food here, but not any drinks.
Do you bring any money with you?
Dùng some trong các lời mời và đề nghị.
e.g. Would you like some drinks?
Can you give me some suggestions?
Trong mệnh đề If, có thể dùng some hoặc any.
e.g. If you need any/some help, please tell me.
b. KHÔNG dùng much trong câu khẳng định.
e.g. I have a lot of money. ( đúng)
I have much money. (sai)
c. A few / A little có nghĩa là có ít nhưng đủ làm điều gì đó.
Còn few / little có nghĩa là có quá ít, không đủ làm điều gì.
e.g. I have a little money. Let’s buy this book.
I have little money. I can’t afford this book.
KHÔNG dùng a few / a little sau very.
e.g. I have very few friends. (đúng)
I have very a few friends. (sai)
B. CÁC TỪ CHỈ SỐ LƯỢNG XÁC ĐỊNH
Các từ chỉ số lượng xác định chỉ một số lượng cụ thể. Các từ này có
thể đi với danh từ không đếm được hoặc danh từ số nhiều.
e.g. I need three glasses of water for this dish.
They brought a box of candles to the party.
Tùy theo đối tượng cần được xác định số lượng mà người ta dùng các
cụm từ chỉ số lượng khác nhau.
