Lesson 5 : Write
A. Aims:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to write a simple speech and
present it before the class.

B. Content:
I. Pre–writing:
1.Warm–up: Guessing game *Key: SPEECH


It’s a noun ( a 6–letter–noun)


It’s your expressing ideas with your mouth.


It comes from the verb of “speak”
2.Pre–teach: (revision)
- (n) waste : vật, đồ bỏ phí (explanation)
What you don’t use anymore and throw it away.
- (a) detail : chi tiết (translation)
- (a) draft : bản thảo, nháp (explanation)
In Math, you often do this before wroting into the notebook.
- (a) sheet : tờ, tấm, mảnh (giấy, vải…) (realia)
- (adj) solid : rắn, ở thể rắn (example)
Is water liquid ? So iron is…
- (adj) separate : riêng lẻ, rời nhau (translation)
* Checking : Slap the board


3. Matching: Part of a speech:
Have you ever made a speech ?
How many parts are there in a speech ?
What is the function of each part ?
- Have students read and match each part of a speech in A to a suitable function in
B.

4. Ordering: sections of a speech(Write b, P61–62)
- Set the scene : Following is a speech about how to save money by Professor Robert,
but their parts are not in correct order.
- Have Ss work in pairs, put the section in 6b (p.62) in the correct order to form a
speech.
- Call on some Ss to give their answer.
- Give feedback and correct : 3 – 2 -1
- Ask Ss to read the speech again and answer questions :
a.What does Professor Robert talk / do in the Introduction ?
b. What are his ideas about saving the amount of gas ?
c. What does he say in finally?

II. While –writing:
- Devide the class into three groups (each group – each topic) discuss and write down
their speech on the poster (The group secretary writes)
+ Reducing garbage
+ Reusing paper
+ Saving energy in the kitchen.
- T goes round and helps Ss if necessary.
*Suggestions:
1. Reducing garbage:
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, my name is……. And I’m going to tell
you (about) how to reduce garbage.
Most of us produce too much garbage everyday. You can reduce garbage by:

Collecting plastic bags, used cans, bottles ….and send them to factories for
recycling.

Not keeping solid waste with food waste.
+

Putting different kinds of waste in different places
If you following these simple rules, you’ll not only reduce your garbage, but
also keep the environment cleaner
2. Reusing paper:
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, my name is…. And today I’m going to
tell you about how to save paper.
Most of us use too much paper. You can reuse paper by:



Having a reparate waste basket for waste paper.


Keeping sheets with single printed page for drafting.
If you follow these rules, not only will you reduce garbage but you will also
save money.
3. Saving energy in the kitchen:
Good evening ladies and gentlemen, my name is…. And today I’m going to tell
you how to save energy in the kitchen.
Most of us use too much electricity, especially in the kitchen. You can reduce
this amount by:


Turning off the lights before leaving the kitchen.


Preparing food carefully before turning on the store.


Keeping refrigerator door closed.
If you follow these simple rules, you will not only save money but also
conserve the resources.
III. Post–writing: Speaking (1 or 2 students from each group express their group’s
speech)
IV. Homework:
1. Complete 3 speeches with 3 topics above
2. Review the knowledge from this unit 7 + Find out new vocabulary in
“L.Focus”
