- Pronounce the words and sentences containing these sounds correctly.
- Master the use of relative clauses and equivalent types of clauses without relative
pronouns.

Ss might have difficulty pronouncing clusters because they do not exist in
Vietnamese. Therefore, T should be ready to assist them.

Warm – up

- T greets Ss.
- Let Ss play a small game:
T prepares some sentences including
some words with sound /str/, /skr/, and
/skw/. The class will be divided into 4
- Ss greets T
- Listen to the
instruction and play

big groups. Ss on the first table will be
whispered a sentence by T and they have
to whisper what they have heard to the
Ss behind. When the Ss on the last table
can catch the sentences, they will come
to the board and write down the
sentences.

drink milk everyday.

1. Distinguishing sounds
- Underline the words containing /str/,
/skr/ and /skw/ and lead in the lesson.
- T models each of these consonants
clusters for a few times. T reminds Ss
how to pronounce clusters.
- T read the words in each column out
loud and asks Ss to repeat after T.
- T asks Ss to read the words in each
column out loud in chorus for a few
more times.
- T calls con some Ss to read the words
out loud. T listens and corrects Ss’
pronunciation.
2. Practicing
- T asks S to work in pairs and read
- Pay attention to the
way to pronounce of T
- Try to distinguish the
sounds.
- Practice pronouncing

aloud the given sentences.
- T goes around and takes notes of the
typical errors.
- T calls on some Ss to read the
sentences again and provides corrective
feedback.
Grammar
20 mins
1. Revision of relative clause
- Ask Ss to translate some sentences
from Vietnamese into English using
relative clauses.
* Expected answers:
1. The cartoon is “Tom and Jerry”,
which I like very much.
2. “Tom and Jerry” is the cartoon which/
that I like very much.
3. Dam Thanh Xuan is the athlete who/
whom/ that I admire al lot.
4. Dam Thanh Xuan is the athlete in
whom I believe.
2. Omission of relative pronouns
- T gets Ss to read the sentences above
and analyze the form of the sentences
with and without a relative pronoun.
- Ask Ss to find out the rules when
omitting a relative pronoun.
* Expected answers:
Relative pronouns “who, whom, which,
that” can be omitted when they are
objects in the sentences.
But we can’t omit :
* “who, which, that” as a subject.
- Do as T’s instructions
- Copy down the
answers
- Listen to the T
and copy the
grammar into
notebook.

* “whom, which” after a coma and a
preposition.
- T takes other examples to check
understanding of Ss.
3. Practicing
- T asks Ss to finish Exercise 3 in text
book to check whether they understand
the lesson or not.
- Have them exchange answers with their
partners.
- Call on some Ss to give answers. Ask
Ss to explain the reason of their choice.
- T asks Ss to finish the rest two
exercises individually.
