OCULOPLASTY
Oculoplasty, also known as Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructve
Surgery(OPRS), is surgery with relation to the eye and its surrounding
structures. Oculoplastic surgery may be performed to improve function, comfort
and appearance.
Who Needs
an
Ophthalmic
Plastic
Surgery?
Although oculoplastic doctor is the best judge for suggesting patients
a surgery, the following are the symptoms which they may
experience and know that they are in need of oculoplasty:
▪
Blinking of eyes more than necessary
▪
Eyelids Hanging Downwards (Ptosis)
▪
Twitching of eyes
▪
Wrinkles, scars or folds around the eyes
▪
Eyelids tearing in or out (Entropion/Ectropion)
▪
Blocked Tear Ducts (NLD Block)
▪
Tumors growing inside or surrounding the eye
▪
Blepharoplasty or excessive fat in eyelids
▪
Bulging Eyes
▪
The absence of an eye
▪
Orbit Tumors
▪
Orbital trauma
Blepharoplasty
(Eyelid Surgery)
Why????
▪ plastic surgeon do blepharoplasty? -- Eyelid is ours !!!!!
▪ orbital wall fracture and tumors? -- Orbit is our territory!!!
▪ filler or botox on eyelid? -- We ophthalmologist do know
better for eyelid anatomy!!!
▪ Eyelid area and orbit are our territory and we must take it back
from other department.

Lower blepharoplasty
▪ Contemporary esthetic trends in lower eyelid blepharoplasty focus on reducing “eye-bag” prominence, thereby
effacing the lower lid-cheek junction and recreating a smooth transition of lower lid cheek interface. (This prolapse or
herniation of the orbital fat in the lower eyelids also known as steatoblepharon often gives the appearance of “bags under
the eyes.”)
= facial rejuvenation --- ‘back to my young face’ even better??
