Subcontractor Managers
We Must Be
On Target For
QUALITY
Prepared & Presented by Ken Toth (JVD Deputy QCM) & David I. Cockle (JVD Chief QCE) on 26 Sept. 2015

Introduction
There has been a recent increase in major non-conformances
issued for serious violations over the past several months.
This workshop focuses on encouraging Subcontractor
Management to become more involved, and promote quality
improvements.
We are here to convince you that quality is an asset, not a
obstacle to schedule or profit, as is often mistakenly thought.
Our challenge is to maintain a high standard of quality in
Vietnam.
If you succeed, we succeed!

Commitment to Quality
If I can convince you throughout this workshop
that by making quality a much higher priority
and improving it, you will:
1. Save money
2. Automatically improve safety
3. Meet your current schedule
would you agree to commit to raising the
standards of quality and make improvements?
Yes!!!

4
Construction’s Biggest Problems!!!
There are three (3) main issues that cause the biggest
problems to the Senior Management of any construction
project:
Schedule – Cost – Safety
QUALITY is the silent partner of all, but it can have a
significant positive impact on the other three.
Without quality, schedule, cost and safety always suffer.

JGCS & Client Concern
JGCS and the Client
have become very
concerned with the
quality of the work.
Subcontractors are
now under the

Quality Concerns
In the pursuit of progress, quality often takes a backseat to
safety and schedule. We often forget that non-conformances
for substandard quality work are the largest contributor to
the project cost overruns and missed schedules.
Let us look at a few photographs of the civil quality concerns
which have been raised over the past few months.
These are namely:
Civil Excavation and Dewatering Work.
Material Storage for Rebar & Structural Steel.
Backfill and Compaction and the use of unsuitable and
contaminated soil.
Structure Settlement
Concrete Curing & Defects.
