Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards
bodies (ISO member bodies). The work o f preparing International Standards is normally carried out
through ISO technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical
committee has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International
organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work.
ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters o f

The committee responsible for this document is ISO/TC 61, Plastics, Subcommittee SC 1, Terminology.
Hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD) is now regulated as persistent organic pollutant (POP); thus, is
excluded from codes 14 and 15 and is newly assigned to codes 23 and 24.
Silica is an inorganic compound and not an organic compound. “Silica compounds ” is changed to “Silicon
compounds”.

Clause 5, page 2
Add “(excluding hexabromocyclododecane)” a fter the word “compounds” for code 14 and a fter the first
“compounds” word for code 15, in order to read:

aliphatic/alicyclic brominated compounds (excluding hexabromocyclododecane)
15 aliphatic/alicyclic brominated compounds (excluding hexabromocyclododecane) in
combination with antimony compounds
Delete “23, 24 not allocated” and add the following:

hexabromocyclododecane

hexabromocyclododecane with antimony compounds
Clause 5, page 3
Replace “Silica compounds” with “Silicon compounds”.
In code 75, replace the word “silica” with “silicon” in order to read:
75 inorganic silicon compounds
In code 76, replace the word “silica” with “silicon” and add the word “(silicones)” after the word
“compounds” in order to read:
76 organic silicon compounds (silicones)
