Last week, I read I’ll Meet You There
by Heather Demetrios. It’s a book
about young people and their first
jobs. This is what happened.
Many girls in 17-year-old Skylar Evans’
small town had a future as bored
mothers working nights in a fast-food
restaurant. But Skylar was planning
to enjoy a three-month summer
holiday and a future at art school.
That is, until her mother lost her
job and Skylar needed to find work
herself.

On June 30 , 1908, people living near
the Tunguska River, in Russia, woke
up to the sound of a large explosion.
Many people have thought the world
was coming to an end, as the sky lit
up. Although nobody had been was
killed, more than 80 million trees
were destroyed, windows were broke
broken and lots of houses were
damaged. The ‘Tunguska event’, as it
is has become known, is one of the
biggest mysteries of the 20th century.
Some people believe it was caused
by a UFO crashing into the forest. In
2004, it was reported that the remains
of a spaceship are were found in
the area. However, it is now been
thought that the explosion was the
result of a comet entering the Earth’s
atmosphere.

The graph shows the changes in five
different types of natural disasters

between 1995 and 2015. It can clearly
be seen that floods occurred most
frequently in the period, starting
with just under a hundred cases
in 1995.  This number doubled
halved by 2005 and then it slowly
decreased increased to around
160 in 2015. The number of storms
shows a similar pattern, increasing
from about 80 in 1995 to 130 in
2005. This number decreased by
about a third two-thirds in the
next five years, before increasing
again. Disasters like wildfires and
extreme heat show a sharp slight
increase between 1995 and 2000,
before gradually decreasing in the
next 15 years. Droughts are the least
most common events, with about
five in 1995. However, by 2000 this
number increased by around 500%
50%, before the numbers remained
about the same for the rest of the
period. Finally, geophysical events
fluctuated (a lot) increased over the
25 years, with small big changes in
the numbers.
