I. INTRODUCTION
1. The reasons of choosing topic
The Ministry of Education and Training has issued 22nd Circular on the

22nd of September 2016 in order to evaluate primary students. With the policy
of innovation, instead of scores assessment teachers have evaluated about the
qualities and capabilities of students which help schools, parents and students to
have practical solutions to achieve the best result in study.
English is taught 4 times a week at my school called Dong Tien primary
school . Under the current provisions of the English curriculum for primary
students, students need to achieve some requests of attitudes, knowledge and
skills. To be able to give comments or detailed assessment of each students and
regularly contact with their parents in order to help students promote the
advantages, and limit the disadvantages; A teacher should use some tools to
support the student management and assessment.
Thanks for information of articles and some websites I have known an
effective tools to manage and comment students . The tool which I have just
concerned and used is ClassDojo . . Therefore I would like to share some of my
initial understanding during using ClassDojo with colleagues through my
experience intiative “The Classdojo application in English classes to estimate
the fifth form students of Dong Tien Primary School according to the 22nd
circular of the Ministry of Education and Training”
2. The purpose of study
As a teacher of English at primary school, I myself not only constantly
research and innovate teaching methods but also find out the effective ways to
manage and comment students exactly. Hopefully, this topic will contribute to
reduce the difficulties and obstacles in giving comments or detailed assessments
of each student, as well as help schools, parents and students to have practical
solutions to achieve the best result in educating and studying .

3. The object of study

The fifth form students of Dong Tien Primary School
4. The methods of study
To research a topic, people often choose many different methods. With
this topic, I use the following methods:
- Theoretical research method: I read the conducting material issues
related to my research needs.
- Learning experience from my colleagues
- Experimental matching method.
- Observation method.
II. THE CONTENT
1. Theoretical basic
In each English class, a teacher should encourage the self-awareness and
activeness of students, he or she also create the contexts for children to
communicate. Through learning activities they can express their qualities,
certain capacity.
In each learning activity, through observation of student activities,
communication among students, a teacher assesses students with specific
comments based on the requirements and standards of qualities, capacity which
are needed to achieve.
* The qualities are needed to form and develop:
-

Home country love;

family love, respect for teachers, humane

tolerance, being heplful.
- Honesty, self-esteem, equity.
- Hardworking, independence, self-confidence, self-control; good selfmanagement;
-

Successful implementation of the provisions of the school, local

residence and the traffic rules ...

2

*The capacity is needed to form and develop:
- Positive, proactive in learning, participating in extracurricular activities
of the schools, the commune where the family resides;
- ability to arrange a time to learn, help parents with housework, take part
in the activities of population groups;
- Communicative skills and cooperative learning, group activities in class,
school, local;
- Creation in learning; good use of applications and technology to support
learning.
2. The current situation.
English is free choice subjects for primary school students, so they do not
pay more attention to the lesson, they are forced to learn and even their parents
do not force them to learn this subject.
There is no awareness of students about the importance of learning
English because they are too young to understand. Apart from that they have no
habbits of reading books or reference in order to improve or enrich their
knowledge. Because they are too young, even they meet a lot of difficulties in
learning their mother tounge, so it’s more difficult for them to learn a foreign
language or English
Most teachers ask students to listen to the tapes in a foreign language
learning lessons, there is no attractive activity to get the attention of the students
to the lessons. Some teachers don’t use educational equipments in teaching. This

makes some students feel tired of reading English . In English lessons, students
are inactive, tired of reading or speaking English and they are not eager to learn.
Most of my student’s families are farming families, they work a long way
from their house, they don’t have time to take care of and teach their children so

3

there is a restriction between the combination of school and family. What I have
mentioned above makes the process of managing and evaluating student become
difficult
I have taken a small recent survey among 5th grade students at Dong Tien
primary school by the way I had done before using ClassDojo and here is a
result:

3. Solution
Based on the requirements of quality, capability needed to form and
develope I built a number of criterias to evaluate and write a report. After that I
adjusted accordingly in teaching English in order to promote the advantages of
application ClassDojo in evaluating primary students according to the 22nd
Circular of Ministry of Education and Training. Here is the way of using
ClassDojo.

4

To use Classdojo a teacher should perform the following steps:
(I have used pictures to inllustrate for each step)
1. Going to the home papge of ClassDojo at: />
2. Seeing information in the following guide:
/>- Log into Classdojo with an account:
A teacher has to create an account to log into this page.
For example: I’ve used my account
to log into Classdojo

3. Adding classes and the names of students.
A teacher types the names of classes which he or she has to be responsible

for, then he or she adds the students’names into these classes . Each student
will have a pretty sympol. If a teacher does not like the sympol he or she can
change it.

4. Building criterias to assess students’ capability and qualities. Here are
some criterias which I have used in my classes.
Positive behavior

Qualities

5. Write a comment for each student in each activity.

8

6. Statistic comment after each English class or after a week (or after a
month, a semester )

9

10

7. Create account codes of students and their parents in order to help
them know the teacher’s detail commemts about students

11

8. Print account codes of students and their parents. They can use these
codes to log in their own class and provide their emails to know about the
process of studying and get informations from their teacher.
4. The result
The 22nd Circular has just been implemented in the first semester of school
year 2019-2020 so that I have only used a few functions of ClassDojo to
support the assessment . Thanks for these functions I find that students are more

hard-working, they are eager to learn English. They pronounce the words
correctly , they are better at reading and writing skill, especially they are more
self-confident in communication inside or outside classes .It is also easy for me
to find each student’weak points and strong points so that I can have the best
methods of teaching which are suitable for each student’s level. I will try my
best to use other clever and useful functions of ClassDojo in order to help my
students achieve the best result in study.
Here is a result after using ClassDojo:

III. CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

1. Conclusion
Classdojo applications help teachers to get statistics and synthesis of the
operations of the class in each lesson, or every week of the semester based on
individual comments about the attitude, behavior of each student at school.
ClassDojo is also very convenient bridge between the school and parents in
order to promote effective teaching and education.
2. Recommendation
Those are my experiences of using Classdojo in English lessons at primary
school. I hope that you will read and give me more advice. I always try my best
to find out the best way of teaching to improve the quality of learning English.
A part from that, I hope the authorities will pay more attention to the facilities,
educational equipments, reference books…give us more chances to improve the
quality of teaching English to meet today educational goals.
