SEPARATION IN THE MINISTRY
D. GOD-INSPIRED SCRIPTURES (3:16-17)
This is the classic passage of the Bible on
the divine inspiration of the sacred writings.
(Review the discussion of this in Chapter 1
of this study manual.) The phrase “inspired
by God” translates one Greek word,
theopneustia,
meaning
literally
“Godbreathed.”
Compare 2 Peter 1:21, which teaches the
divine inspiration of the human writers. The
Bible has been called “the heart of God in
the words of God.” The infallibility and
inerrancy of the original autographs rest
rmly on such testimonies as 2 Timothy
3:16, as well as the very character of God.
Observe what Paul writes about in the
verses of chapter 3 preceding the
theopneustia passage. How are the two
related?
E. PAUL’S FAREWELL (4:1-22)
These are Paul’s last recorded words,
written in a tone of urgency, triumph, and
tender care. The chapter is the climax not
only of this epistle but of the entire recorded
