Alkali caustics are found in several household products. Sodium hydroxide
(lye), which is available in crystalline and liquid forms, is used primarily as an
oven cleaner or drain pipe cleaner. Other products may contain alkaline caustics,
including powdered laundry and dishwasher detergents.
