Cricoarytenoid Arthritis. The cricoarytenoid joint is a diarthrodial joint with a synovial
membrane. In patients with known polyarticular JIA, cricoarytenoid arthritis rarely
may lead to acute airway obstruction. Clinical features of cricoarytenoid arthritis
include stridor and hoarseness. The inspiratory stridor may wax and wane, and may be
present only when the patient is asleep. Some of these patients also may complain of
pain in the throat while swallowing, and pain in the ears. Many of these symptoms and
signs are similar to those of severe acute laryngotracheobronchitis, which at times may
