Abstract
Overthepastseveraldecadestherehavebeensignificantimprovementsin
thecareofpatientsdiagnosedwithcancer.Oneunintendedconsequenceof
thesuccessesoftherapyisagrowingpopulationofpatientsatriskfor
cancertreatment–relatedcardiotoxicity(CTC).Manychemotherapeutic
agentsleadtoawidevarietyofcardiovascularpathologiesthatcan
manifestwithinhoursofadministrationordecadeslater.Survivorsarefive
tosixtimesmorelikelythansiblingcontrolstodevelopcardiovascular
diseaseofvariousetiologies,includingsymptomaticheartfailure,
asymptomaticventriculardysfunction,valvardisease,coronarydisease,
arrhythmias,autonomicdysfunction,vascularchanges,andpericardial
disease.Thefieldofcardio-oncologyisfocusedonprevention,
surveillance,andtreatmentofCTC.
