may be confused with ventricular tachycardia. It is distinguished from ventricular ectopy by the
P wave preceding each wide complex.
FIGURE 86.7 Ventricular tachycardia. This is a “narrow QRS tachycardia” at 200 BPM
recorded in an infant. Retrograde P waves are visible in the ST segment, suggesting possible
SVT, although the QRS axis is not normal. In the pediatric age group, it is common to have
normal retrograde conduction via the AV node.
