TABLE 86.6
LESION-SPECIFIC COMPLICATIONS
Current Evidence
Arrhythmias may occur in healthy individuals as well as in those with heart
disease. They may be congenital or acquired, fast or slow, and anywhere on the
spectrum from benign to fatal. Cardiac catheter ablation can cure most
tachyarrhythmias and is safe in young patients. Implantable pacemakers and
defibrillators are small enough to be used in infants and children. Many diseases
that predispose patients to SCD may be identified by genetic markers, facilitating
primary preventive therapy.
