Many scientists believe that intelligert life exists somewhere beyond

our planet, the Eafih.

It is probable, the), say, because of the long

existencc and huge size of the universe. Stephen Hawking, one of the

world's most magnificent scientists, states the impofiance for human
beings to move into space: 'Once we spread out into space and establish
iudependent colonies, our future should be safe'.

It was diffrcult to

search

for evidences of life in the universe in

the

past. Fofiunately, scientists have rccently invented a variety ofpowerful

equipment to aid them. By using tools like the Hubble Telescope, the
scientists have proved that there are at least 100 billion galaxies. And

our galaxy, the Milky Way, has at least 100 billions stars. Telescopes
also allow scieltists to identift smaller planets, in the size of Ear1h,

which are believed to have intelligent life. These ones might belong to

other solar systems.
Even

if

expefis find out some signs of intelligent life in the universe,

it is not easy to contact these beings. The distance between planets is
too grcat. In fact, intelligent beings in other plarets may be trying to
communicate with us now, using methods such

as

radio signals. But we

do not have the right tools to receive their messages. It is going to take
a

continuing cooperation between scientists ftom all other the world to

build

t-he

bridge Io oLhcr life forms in our universe.

The fourlh planet lrom the Sun in our solar system is Mars, which is
sometimes called the Red Planet due to the red color of its surface.

Mars is about 142 million miles from the Sun, about 45 million miles

from the Earth. It is next to the Earth, and is probably more similar to
Earth than any other planet. Despite being about hallthe size of Earth,
Mars has some ofthe same chemicals that Earth has on its srrrface and

in its abrosphere. It also gets lots of sunlight, ard has a solid surface
to walk on. Because of those similarities, people have good reasons to
wonder ifthere might have been life forms on Mars. However, in other
ways, Mars is very different from our planet. Mars' atmosphere is very

thin so it camot protect any creatures living there. And it is a dry and
dusty planet with no liquid wator on its surface. The average surface
temperature or Maxs is about -60'C, which means life cannot exist on

this planet.
Besides, there are many interesting things about Mars. It has the largest

volca c mountain, Ol1.mpus Mons, and the largest known canyon,
Valles Marineris in our solar system. Olympus Mons is three times

Phobos and Deimos.

Much more information is gained today about Mars than in the past.

of waste in daily activities. Instead of using nylon bags, people can
bring reusable bags when shopping or traveling. We should use
products that are rechargeable like batteries. Re-using boxes, papers
and plastics bags is also a good way to cut down on waste. Besides,

we can share rrewspaper and magazines with friends to reduce waste
and also save more trees from being cut for making paper Shopping
at secold-hand stores is another great idea. We can find great used
and unused clothes at low cost and still help to save the environment.
People should buy items made of recycled content, and use and reuse
them as much as possible. For instance, we can use both sides ofevery
