Hướng dẫn viết Cause-Effect-Solution essay
Đây là dạng bài yêu cầu thí sinh nêu ra các cause (nguyên nhân), effect (tác động) hoặc solution (giải
pháp) của một vấn đề xã hội nào đấy. Đề có thể kết hợp đa dạng các yêu cầu, ví dụ:
(Đề thi IELTS ngày 05/05/2018) These days people in some countries are living in a 'throw-away'
society which means they use things in a short time then throw the things away. What are the
causes and the impacts this trend can have? --> Nêu causes & effects
(Đề thi IELTS ngày 08/04/2018) Consumers are faced with increasing numbers of advertisements
from competing companies. To what extent do you think consumers are influenced by
advertisements? What measures can be taken to protect them? --> Nêu effects & solutions
(Đề thi IELTS ngày 01/11/2018) Cycling is more environmentally-friendly than other forms of
transport. Why is it not popular in many places? How to increase its popularity? --> Nêu causes &
solutions
Bài hướng dẫn dưới đây chỉ cung cấp các mẫu và một số cụm từ template chung chung để định
hướng nội dung bài, mang tính chất tham khảo. Để viết được nguyên bài hoàn chỉnh cần phải có các
từ vựng theo chủ đề mà đề bài đang hỏi.
Cách Brainstorm Cho Các Cause - Effect - Solution

Brainstorm tìm cause: Tìm ý tưởng dựa trên các hoạt động trong đời sống, thói quen sinh
hoạt, tập quán của con người, vì đó chính là nguồn gốc gây ra hầu hết các vấn đề của xã hội.

Brainstorm tìm effect: Thường khi một chuyện trở thành 'vấn đề' hoặc là 'tạo thuận lợi', nó
sẽ đem lại tác động tiêu cực/ tích cực đến 3 đối tượng là Cá nhân, Xã hội hoặc Chính phủ. Tương
ứng với mỗi đối tượng sẽ có các khía cạnh bị ảnh hưởng. Khi brainstorm thì học sinh nghĩ hết từng ơ,
từng mục, nhưng sau đó chỉ chọn lọc những ý quan trọng để viết thơi, vì tuỳ theo vấn đề mà các đối
tượng/ khía cạnh bị tác động nhiều ít khác nhau và ta nên chọn cái nào mà nó nhiều ý nhất để viết.

Brainstorm tìm solution: Tương tự như vậy, mỗi đối tượng sẽ có thể thực hiện những giải
pháp khác nhau ở những quy mô khác nhau. Học sinh không nhất thiết phải đề cập hết tất cả giải
pháp từ tất cả các đối tượng, chỉ chọn những giải pháp nào quan trọng nhất thôi.
GỢI Ý DÀN BÀI TỔNG QUÁT
Introduction:
General statement: paraphrase lại đề bài
It is a fact that ....
Thesis statement: trả lời câu hỏi của đề bài - giới thiệu chung chung là có những causes/ effects hay
solutions nào, tuỳ theo câu hỏi của đề bài.
Effects & Solutions: Although there will undoubtedly be some negative consequences of this trend,
societies can take steps to mitigate/tackle these potential problems.
Hoặc: Although there will undoubtedly be some negative consequences of this trend, solutions can
be taken to mitigate/tackle these potential problems.
Causes & Effects: This trend/issue is caused by several reasons (regarding ...). Consequently, there
are numerous negative effects/influences/impacts that may arise.
Problems & Solutions: This essay will analyze/highlight some primary causes/problems of this and
offer a number of possible solutions to the problem.
Body:
(lưu ý độ dài paragraph 1 nên tương đương paragraph 2)
Paragraph: Dùng cấu trúc song hành/ diễn dịch nêu ra (các) cause

Trước khi đi vào ý chính, có thể sử dụng câu topic sentence giới thiệu (các) cause (không bắt

Nếu có câu giới thiệu trên thì Cause 1 có thể viết: Firstly, it is because….
Ex: Firstly, it is because children consume a large amount of fast food on a daily basis.

Nếu khơng có câu giới thiệu trên thì Cause 1 có thể viết: ABC is one of the main reasons for
this matter / N phrase
Ex: Fast food is one of the main reasons for childhood obesity.

Liệt kê thêm ra các causes khác: Secondly, Furthermore, At last,…

Nói về khuyết điểm 1: At first,....... It means that ......
Nói về khuyết điểm 2: A second measure would be..... In particular, ......
Nói về khuyết điểm 3: Finally,....... For example,...
Conclusion:
Paraphrase thesis statement và nói tóm tắt, tổng quát các cause - effect - solution.
In conclusion, ... is the main reason for ... As a result, the downside would emerge consequently in
terms of {effect 1, 2 & 3}. Nevertheless, there are measures that can be taken to deal with the
problems regarding {giải pháp 1,2,3}.
Hoặc: In conclusion, there are various factors leading to … and measures can be implemented to
tackle this issue.
Hoặc: In conclusion, various measures can be implemented to tackle the problems that are certain to
arise as S+V….
Hoặc: In conclusion, there are various negative consequences of … and appropriate steps need to /
should be taken to tackle these problems (not only by the government but also by individuals).
