DDC AHU Control
Free cooling application

Operation Description
For auto mode, direct digital controller, DDC (DDC-1)
provides time schedule for start/stop operation of AHU.

At free cooling operation, the motorized cooling valve (TV-1)
will be driven to fully closed position.

Duct type temperature sensor (TE-3) is installed to
sense the supply air temperature. Direct digital
controller, DDC (DDC-1) provides modulating (PI)
control for the motorized valve (TV-1), so as to maintain
the desired supply air temperature.

If the enthalpy of outdoor air is higher than that of return air or
outdoor air temperature is higher than the set point of supply
air temperature, the motorized return air damper (DA-1) will be
driven to maximum position, while the motorized outdoor air
damper (DA-2) will be driven to minimum position.

The supply air temperature set point is reset by the
return air temperature, sensed by duct type
temperature sensor (TE1), based on a reset schedule.

The controller interlocks with the supply fan status, so that on
fan shut down, the controller will be switched off, the cooling
valve will be driven to its closed position, and the dampers be
driven to fully closed position.

Duct type temperature sensors (TE-1, 2) and humidity
sensors (HE-1, 2) is installed to sense the return and

fresh air temperature and humidity. DDC calculates the
enthalpy values of return and fresh air based on the
sensed value, so as to provide free cooling control.

The differential pressure switch (DPS-1) monitors the status of
filter, when the set point is exceeded, a signal will be given to
DDC.

If the enthalpy of outdoor air is lower than that of return
air with a enthalpy differential and the outdoor air
temperature is lower than the supply air setpoint, the
motorized return air damper (DA-1) will be driven to
minimum opening, while the motorized outdoor air
damper (DA-2) will be driven to maximum opening.

Operation Description
For auto mode, direct digital controller, DDC (DDC-1)

provides time schedule for start/stop operation of AHU.
Duct type temperature sensor (TE-1) is installed to
sense the return air temperature, DDC provides
modulating (PI) control for the motorized cooling valve
(TV-1) based on the sensed return temperature and set
point, so as to maintain the desired return air
temperature.
Duct type CO2 gas detector (CO-1) is installed to
monitor the CO2 gas concentration of return air. DDC
provides modulating (PI) control for the motorized
damper actuators (DA-1) based on the sensed gas
concentration and set point, so as to maintain the
desired return CO2 gas concentration.

DDC monitors the fan on/off status and trip alarm. The
motorized cooling valve and damper actuators interlock with
fan status. Both valve and damper will be fully closed when
the fan shut down.
The differential pressure switch (DPS-1) monitors the status of
filter, when the set point is exceeded, a signal will be given to
DDC.
The smoke detector (SD-1) monitors the smoke status. Once
smoke is detected, the fan will be shut down.

DDC Chiller Plant Control
3 chillers, 4 chilled water pumps with bypass valve

Operation Description
In auto mode, direct digital controller, DDC (DDC-1)
provides start/stop control for the chiller plant based on
time schedule.
The immersion temperature sensors (TE-1, 2) are
installed in the chilled water return and supply headers
to sense the chilled water return and supply
temperature and flow meter (FM-1) will be installed to
monitor the flow rate of return chilled water. The DDC
calculates the cooling load of the building based on the
sensed temperatures and flow rate. A chiller set will be
started, if the calculated cooling load is higher than set
point or the return chilled water temperature is higher
than the set point of chilled return temperature. A
chiller set will be stopped, if both the cooling load and
return chilled water temperature lower than the set
point with a differential.

DDC monitors the on/off status and trip alarm of all chillers
and chilled water pumps.
The priority to start a chiller and chilled water pump will based
on the total running time of each equipment, so as to maintain
the equal run time of each equipment.
Sequence of start a chiller:
1. Open the isolation valve;
2. Start chilled water pump;
3. Start chiller if the flow is proven.
Sequence of stop a chiller:
1. Stop chiller;
2. Stop chilled water pump;
3. Close the isolation valve.
Time delay are set for each step in the above sequencing.

DDC limits the maximum start/stop time of chiller and
chilled water pump in a pre-set time period and also the
minimum run time, so as to prevent cycling effect on
the equipment.
The water flow switches (FS-1~3) are installed to
monitor the flow status of chilled water. The chiller will
be started, if the flow is proven by the flow switch.

Differential pressure transmitter (DPT-1) is installed to sense
the differential pressure between the supply and return
headers. DDC provides modulating (PI) control for the
motorized bypass valve (PV-1) based on the sensed
differential pressure and set point, so as to maintain the
desired differential pressure.

DDC controller (TC-1) monitors system on/off status (by relay
K1). Once system off, fan will be shut down and the motorized
valve (TV-1) will be driven to fully closed position and the
electric heater will be switched off.

TEST
POSITION

Notes
1.

In normal condition, A-B is closed circuit to make fan(s) operating.

2.

If an alarm is detected, alarm contacts will change from N.C. (Terminals 16 &
6) to N.O. (Terminals 6 & 17), and this will result in breaking the circuit of A-B.

3.

Trouble contact (Terminal 3 & 14) will open when plate of detector or power is
removed. A-B will open and the fan(s) will be stopped.

4.

The detector can be tested by placing a magnet at test position.

5.

The detector can be resumed to normal condition by pushing the reset button.

6.

Relay R should be 24 VDC and provided by others.

Note:
1. K1: Relay interlock with fan starter.
(Close = On, Open = Off)
2. Refer to DH100 wiring diagram for
wiring the smoke detector. (Attached
at the end of this section)
3. If 3-way mixing valve instead of 2way valve is used, the wiring at
terminals 2 & 3 of the actuator (TV-1)
should be interchanged.

Operation Description
Duct type temperature sensor (TE-1) is installed to
sense the supply air temperature. Easy Direct Digital
Controller, DDC (SC-1) provides modulating (PI)
control for the motorized valve (TV-1), so as to maintain
the desired supply air temperature.
The smoke detector (SD-1) monitors the smoke status.
Once smoke is detected, the fan will be shut down.

The differential pressure switch (DPS-1) monitors the status of
filter, when the set point is exceeded, a signal will be given to
switch on 'filter change' indicating lamp on the control panel.
Easy DDC (SC-1) monitors the fan on/off status. Once fan
shut down, the motorized valve (TV-1) will be driven to fully
closed position.

Equipment Wiring

Operation Description
Duct type thermostat (TS-1) located in the return air
duct will provide two-position control for the motorized
valve (TV-1), so as to maintain the desired return air

temperature.

With the system selector switch in 'Heat' position, the cooling
controlled valve will be at its normally-closed position and the
duct type thermostat is controlling the electric duct heater to
maintain the desired return air temperature.

The switch (S-1) provides High-Med-Low fan speed
and system switching. With the system selector switch
in 'cool' position. The electric duct heater will be cut off
and the duct type thermostat is controlling the cooling
valve to maintain the desired return air temperature.

With the switch in 'Off' position, the motorized valve will return
to its normally-closed position and both the electric duct heater
and fan will be switched off.
A high limit cutout thermostat with manual reset type (HL-1) is
installed to de-energize the electric duct heater in the event of
excessive high temperature built up in the supply air duct.
