Dear respected partners and sponsors,

In 2014, Volunteers for Education (VEO) and Newday Media established a fundraising project called “Sunshine on the border” for the local community, especially disadvantaged
children in a few mountainous provinces in Northern Vietnam.

After 5 years of improving education standard in remote mountainous areas, we would like to express our greatest gratitude to our partners, organizations, corporations,
individuals, donors and media partners. With the help and support from all resources, we have built new schools and provide clothes for children and people living in
mountainous areas in generally.

Each and everyday, we never stop creating new and better opportunities for children to study and pursue education. In “Sunshine on the border 2019” project, we decide to
choose the first school site for the fundraising project and that is: Hang Sung school site – Ta Phin nursery school, Tua Chua district, Dien Bien province.

We hope to receive help from all organizations, corporations and donors to build a new school for children in Ta Phin commune, Tua Chua district, Dien Bien province. The
ultimate goal of this is to create a better, more secured education environment for the children.

We would really appreaciate if organizations, corporations or individuals can support us not only in this concert but also the whole “Sunshine on the border” project with 6
school sites in the plan. We believe that this project is a great way to contribute to our society by helping to create a better developing condition for the needy children in
Vietnam. This is also an opportunity to network and connect to potential individuals, organizations and corporates.

“Sunshine on the border” 2018 project

We have invested and successfully built 5 constructions at Tuan Giao district and Tua
Chua district, Dien Bien province:

phịng nội trú kiên cố, 01 nhà bếp, 01 nhà vệ sinh và tài trợ kinh phí mua nguyên vật
liệu sửa chữa 10 phòng nội trú cũ. Tổng giá trị tài trợ là 2,123,186,000 VND.

Construction at Muong Thin primary school, Muong Thin commune, Tuan
Giao district. Total value of sponsorship: 395,900,000 VND

Construction at Hua Muc 2 school site, Pu Xi primary school, Pu Xi
commune, Tuan Giao district. Total value of sponsorship:

285,155,000VND.

5.

Volunteers For Education has provided books for the new library with a
total value of 7,688,500 VND.


ABOUT “SUNSHINE ON THE BORDER 2019” CHARITY PROJECT

“Sunshine on the border 2019” aims to build Huoi Anh school site, located in Dien
Bien province. A charity concert with the theme “Journey to the dream” will be
held to invite the help from all benefactors to build a new school for children in
Ta Phin commune, Tua Chua district, Dien Bien province, with the hope of
improving current education standard.

The project organized by V.E.O, Newday Media and Education and Training Division
of Tua Chua district, Dien Bien province has officially been launched.


HANG SUNG SCHOOL SITE – TA PHIN NURSERY SCHOOL

Ta Phin commune, which is 27 km from the district center, is a poor commune of Tua Chua district. The

commune consists of 572 households with a total population of 2795 people. Local people are 100%
Mong people and the poverty rate is 64,3%.

Transportation to and from the school is very difficult when the road to school is 90% dirt road. The road is
very narrow, steep, dangerous, especially in the rainy season

Currently, Ta Phin nursery school has 49 children of age 3-4. At present, the school does not have
available classrooms so the children are studying on the campus of the nearby primary school, using
shared toilets and narrow contemporary kitchen. The refurbishment of the kitchen has many drawbacks
and natural disaster has affected directly to the caretaking tasks

Hang Sung school site does not have available classrooms.
The two concrete classrooms built in 2006 are now seriously degraded: moldy walls, stucco and paint
have a lot peeling and holes

The school structure and surroundings are not suitable for the children
The beneficiary is nursery student, with a priority of the youngest age

DETAILS OF PROJECT ACTIVITIES

Estimated duration: May – June 2019
Main activities:


- Assign personnel to construct, supervise, complete and decorate the school site.
- Hold interactive activities and teach life skills for children and local people.
- Provide gifts to nursery children.
- Provide facilities for teaching and learning purpose of nursery school.
- A social activity (medicine distribution, knowledge sharing program, etc.)
- Music gala for volunteers, the local people and the children.

Concept



“The shortest way to reach a dream is through education”
While in our society, the rights to go to school and to be educated of
children is an undeniable fact, the journey to education of children living
in remote mountainous areas is still a rough and dreadful journey…


The portrait of children with clear eyes and
delighted smiles may ingrained in many
people’s minds. However, there are still a
lot of drawbacks that those children still
have to deal with everyday. They are not
provided with the sufficient amount of food,
clothes and even the care of their parents.
The image of a 4-5 year-old child
piggybacking his sister, or a child who is a
little older has to carry wood on his back
and bring water home from a faraway
torrent has brought many people to tears.


The journey to obtain “knowledge” of the children here starts at the crack of dawn, when fog still covers the whole area. The rough
and bumpy road, located on the mountain slope, underneath lies an abyss but none of those can stop the studious children. Perhaps, to
them, nothing is more precious than being able to go to school, to chase their dreams about a bright future, to dream about a fullyfacilitated school, to be provided with enough food and clothes to… go to school.
